As an ex-European Union civil servant of 15 years, I want to take you on a journey through the lively international quarter where the seat is of the European Union institutions. (out, I am a convinced European!) We can start and end at the Luxembourg Square, where locals meet the civil servants and the tourists. Yes, you. Visit of the surroundings with the history of the European Parliament, the European Council(s) buildings, the European Commission. We pass also through the Leopold Park and the Cinquantenaire / Jubelpark. Did you know they had wild animals in one of these parks ? Also, Einstein and the other fathers of the atomic bomb met regularly here. We can go back to the Luxembourg square or I can leave you at a great Belgian pub next near Place Schuman-plein. Addition: a visit of the European Parliament (via the Visitors' Center) can be organised. It is free, but needs to be organised in advance and is subject to free slots available). It lengthens however the tour by 1, 5 hr.
We start at Luxembourg Square in front of the old train station (now a service of the European Parliament). We visit the buildings of the old World Exhibition in the Jourdan park and see the development of this green lung in this quarter. We then make our way to the centre of Europe, the Schuman Round-point with the majority of EU institutions. The tour will end where is convenient for you, Schuman Round-point (at a typical Belgian pub, or restaurant), or return at Luxembourg square for a drink at 'Place Lux' as it is commonly named once the after-work parties set in. * This itinerary can be customized.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
