Time and again, Bruges, a World Heritage City, captivates the hearts and minds of its visitors. Expressions of amazement and emotion at the sight of the romantic canals, ancient squares and countless art treasures and architecture. These Bruges walks will lead you past breathtaking spots, revealing our true and unique attractive characteristics. Bruges is grand but at the same time a destination on a human scale that is perfect for exploring on foot. Our wealth of cultural-historical monuments and museums goes hand in hand with a wonderful atmosphere and authentic charm. All my career, I have been working and travelling around the globe in business events and tourism. Now that I retired, I'm proud and happy to share the beauty of my hometown with visitors from far. I do not handle large groups, but have chosen for the intimate format of touring, on foot or by bicycle with just a few guests. My style is storytelling, and I want to hear your story too! During my tours, I try to avoid as much as possible the busy spots but will take you off the beaten path into the parts of Bruges many tourists have never seen. This is where and how we live. By the end of the tour, I always share my Google map with my guests; a map that includes personal favorites and hot spots.

Overview of your Bruges tour

Known for its pivotal role during World War I, it is a destination that offers insight into the sacrifices of soldiers and the profound impact of war. The landscape where the terrible battles of the Great War were once fought is now a calm and peaceful natural paradise with limitless pleasure. This green region is peppered with numerous picturesque villages and attractive towns, where you can discover the sad history and silent witnesses of the First World War. While the historical significance of Flanders Fields is undeniable, the region also offers natural and cultural beauty. The serene landscapes, dotted with poppies that bloom in remembrance, are ideal for walking or cycling. The "capital" of the Westhoek is the medieval city of Ypres, destroyed in World War I and rebuilt down to the last stone. Thanks to the In Flanders Fields Museum, Ypers Museum and the daily Last Post Ceremony, echoes of the past are never far away.

Your Bruges tour itinerary

- Start your exploration at the In Flanders Fields Museum, located in the historic Cloth Hall of Ypres (Ieper). - Drive to Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world. - We will enjoy a meal of traditional Flemish dishes such as stoofvlees (beef stew) served with fries, or waterzooi (a creamy chicken or fish stew). Pairing with a refreshing Belgian beer, of course! - Visit to Hill 60, a site of significant trench warfare during World War I. - Walking along the preserved trenches and craters, you will be able to envision the harsh conditions faced by soldiers. - Nearby, the Menin Road offers more opportunities to explore the remnants of war, including memorials and bunkers. - In the early evening, we will be returning to Ypres to witness the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. This daily ceremony honors the fallen soldiers of the British Commonwealth.
