Dear traveller, let me take you on one of my rollercoaster tours in Flanders and Brussels! My name is Maarten, father to a boy and a girl, married and living in Leuven for almost 20 years, born and raised near Bruges and worked for many years in Brussels. My hobbies are art and antiques, fine dining, travelling, bootcamp fitness, yoga and playing tennis. I fluently speak Dutch (of course), French and English. I have a masters degree in French. I currently study art history at Leuven University. I'm already a certified beer sommelier but now i'm becoming a zythologist (beer specialist). Hence, I do like a good beer from time to time but the stories behind our Belgian beers are also very fascinating. In 2017 I started guiding. A friend from India came to visit and I had to prepare a tour of the best of Belgium. This triggered and inspired me to become a certified guide for Flanders and Brussels. I'm strong at delivering high quality walking tours, asking clients their preferences and wishes so to fully give the best possible experience. I love travelling myself and always on the lookout for new things to see and discover in our amazing cities full of art and culture. In my personal citytrips I have to make sure there is a lot of variation between culture, action, foodie places to keep everyone of my family happy. It's this mix of variation I also bring to my tours. So most of the walking tours include - of course - tasting local specialties! The cities that I propose are Bruges, Ghent, Brussels and of course my home town of Leuven. In daytrips we can combine two cities or discover Bruges and the Flanders Fields. I feel very passionate about our rich history and art. Belgians love to eat and drink: our culinary traditions are truly phenomenal. But in the meantime I find it thrilling to show people how vibrant and innovative our cities are right now. Old and new go hand in hand! Maarten was a fantastic guide - helping us plan things out in advance and providing useful planning tips for our trip. Tour was great - avoiding the biggest crowds, yet still seeing everything we wanted. He had a great depth of knowledge - for the history, the architecture, the art! And he was even able to educate us on food and beer! Would not hesitate to go around with him on any tour.
This tour was nothing short of magical. Brugge is already a fairytale city but seeing it through the eyes of Maartin, our knowledgeable and passionate guide brought everything to life in the most incredible way. Every cobbled street, quiet canal, and historic building had a story, and Maartin shared it all with charm, humor, and insight. We explored hidden gems we never would’ve found on our own, sampled some of the best local chocolates, beers and waffles. We learned so much about the rich culture and history of this stunning medieval city. If you’re visiting Brugge, do not miss this tour. It truly elevated our entire trip and left us with unforgettable memories. Brugge and Maartin stole our hearts, and this tour was absolutely amazing.

Maarten showed us all the major highlights of Brugge and pointed out even more for us to do the next day. We enjoyed learning everything Maarten had to offer about this fairytale city and got enough recommendations from him to fill a full day by ourselves the next day. I think I even remember him being surprised that we visited so many spots he recommended to us, which speaks to both how thoroughly Maarten covered the area and how excited he got us to go out and learn more on our own.
What a thoroughly enjoyable day! We got to see all of the sites of Bruges, even the blood of Christ ritual. Maartin is such a good guy. He's knowledgeable, energetics, enthusiastic, as well as flexible… Doesn't get any better than that! Highly highly recommend this tour!!!

Maarten was so kind, so knowledgeable and really helped give us the best tour that included history, art, humor, insight into Belgian people, Belgian culture and of course- food and beer.
