Overview of your Bruges tour

Enjoy a half-day in Bruges and discover his magnificent medieval city centre (listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site). We meet in the port of Zeebrugge and we drive to the city centre (half an hour). The walking tour takes around 2'5 - 3 hours, depending on what you want to visit. It includes the visit to an artisanal shop where we learn about the history of cocoa in Belgium, with a delicious small chocolate tasting. The walk itself is amazing. Bruges is a city that offers a unique medieval experience. The big buildings like the Belfry tower, the gothic City Hall, the Church Of Our Lady (with the second tallest brick tower in Europa) blend perfectly with the picturesque cobbled alleys and romantic canals that once where walked by rich merchants and nobles. We visit also the spiritual places of Bruges, like his famous Beguinage, where since 1245 only women are permitted to live. Afterwards you have around 2 hours of free time before meeting back to bring you on time to the cruise terminal.

Albert was very personable and knowledgeable about Brugge. He arranged transportation for us from the cruise terminal to the area where we would be for our walking tour. We were a group of 8 with a few of us having some more difficulty walking. He was very cognizant of this and made sure we had places to sit along the way as he toured us around. We had a wonderful lunch that he arranged for us. And a yummy chocolate tasting! Albert was a pleasure to spend the day with; we felt that we came away having learned a little more about Brugge and loving the area.

Albert was waiting for us at the cruise terminal and drove us into Bruges where we started our walking tour. Albert was very knowledgeable and passionate about Bruges and provided a running commentary about the history of Bruges and its buildings. Unfortunately, due to external factors, we were late starting the tour and did not have time to explore Bruges by ourselves, but we were more than happy just with the walking tour. One of the reasons that we enjoyed the tour and would recommend this tour by Albert, was that Albert managed to structure the tour as to avoid most of the crowds of tourists. Albert was friendly and happy to answer our questions and tailored the pace of the tour to our small group of three people. Compared to group excursions of Bruges offered by the cruise companies, Albert wins by a long margin on several factors with the cost per person not being too much more.

Your Bruges tour itinerary

The walking tour starts at the Bargeplein. Then we visit Minnewater (lake of love), Beguinage, the brewery "Halve Maan" with his famous two-mile underground beer pipeline, Saint John's Hospital (one of Europe's oldest surviving hospital buildings), Church of Our Lady with Michelangelo's Madonna, Gruuthuse, Dijver, fish markets, Burg with Town Hall, Market Square with Belfry, Cloth Hall and guild houses. During the tour we can visit the Church of Our Lady and its sumptuous interior including the Michelangelo's Madonna (€ 6, 00 per person, closed on Sunday morning) and/or the Basilica of the Holy Blood, a Neogothic temple that preserves a relic, said to contain some of the blood of Jesus Christ (free entrance, but closed between 12:15 and 14:00). As I am a certified guide of Bruges, I can adapt the tour to your convenience. Let me know what are your interests and wills. I'm flexible and will adjust to your cruise arrival/departure time.
