My Classical Tour of Bruges takes about 3 hours. We don't actually walk too far, because it's a really small city, and there is something of interest around every corner, so we are frequently stopping and talking. The Tour starts from either city centre 'Maarkt', or the point of collection. It finishes on Burg (Citizen) Square, central city, allowing you easy access to Horse drawn carriages, Boat tours, and City Centre shopping and dining. We will tread streets that were once generically called 'the smell of the city', we'll understand what makes our Bell Ringer Mr Wim Berteloot very happy, and I guarantee a thorough, fun look at the history and legends of Bruges. Why are there over 400 statues of Mary, Mother of Jesus? And why are there bears all over the city? Answers await on my tour, alongside a wide selection of chocolates, waffles, beers and fries - all a finger's distance away. On Special Request, these tours can also be conducted during evening/night hours.
•Maarkt - how old is Bruges really? 2000 years? 800 years even 100 years? •Guild of the Craftsmen - what lies behind these facades and what has Saint Nicholas to do with that? •Belfort - the truth of the 366-step climb? •St Salvador's Cathedral (possibility of entry too) •St Jan's Medieval Hospital - one of Europe's longest surviving hospitals •Minnewater Lake of Love - the most romantic corner of Bruges •Begijnhof - what did the Catholics really think of this single women-only sect? •The old 'red light district' where something as innocent as taking a bath was easily misconstrued. •Godhouses - who was really the winner here, in these tiny poor-peoples' homes? •Church of Our Holy Lady & Gruuthuse Palace - places reserved for the rich and noble •Groeninge Museum - analogy of the Flemish Primitives •From the 'Prettiest Corner' to the 'Smelliest part of the City' •Burg Square - politics and religion mix in abundantly rich architecture. *For less than 5 days booking notice please message with your request.
