Hi, My name is Jan. I was born and raised in the Bruges region to an American mother. I grew up with the best of both worlds on each side of the Atlantic. I started guiding at a very young age. As I started to assume the role of the 'family historian', I was expected to show visiting family from the US around my medieval hometown, all the while connecting the local history to the world stage. From there, my passion grew and guiding took on a life of itself. I've been guiding at a professional level for almost 9 years, having completed a 3-year guiding course to become an 'official' (licensed) city guide along the way. Through the years I've become an 'all-rounder' on each of my tours ranging from diving into history and art history; to showing our culinary/food culture (beer, waffles; chocolate and local dishes), to exposing the medieval origin of common English words, to sharing popular anecdotes, all explained with a humorous twist. I look forward to showing you around my hometown. - Bachelor Degree - Major in Political and Social Sciences; Minor in History - Masters Degree - Latin American Studies - Official Guide of Bruges Diploma/License - EHBO (First Aid for Accidents) - Certificate - Driver's license since 2006. I have my own sedan car.

Let's explore the north side of medieval Bruges, where the crowds don't venture to! On this tour filled with fun facts, we'll dive into how Bruges grew into a major trading hub over the centuries, as I explain the medieval origins of some of our favourite English sayings. We'll make our way to the remnants of the first city walls, passing by the old city theatre; the old stock exchange and the Jan Van Eyck square (the old port). We'll go through medieval windy roads, past the 15th-century Jerusalem-church, to the old windmills on the outer limits of the old centre to see Bruges' medieval skyline, admiring beautiful old palaces and 15 century international trading embassies along our way back to where we started from. This would usually be Burg square where you'd have the option to visit the Count's Chapel and the Basilica of Holy Blood for free. You could also opt to deluge in a chocolate tasting, or visit the spectacular Jerusalem-church (for an extra cost).
Depending from the spot we meet up at, our tour will do a loop from and back to the closest itinerary point to that spot. ·Generally, we'd start from the Burg square, in front of the Old Count's Chapel and the Basilica of Holy Blood (both with an optional entrance). From here, we'll proceed to see the following highlights: -A 19th century city theatre. -The old stock exchange (Italian trading embassies). -The old city ramparts. -The gothic bay window. -The Ghost house of Bruges. -The Castillian trading embassy. -Jan Van Eyck square (the old port). -The oldest wooden house of Bruges -The Golden-hand canal. -Cafe Vlissinghe (oldest pub in town). -Jerusalem church (possible entrance for extra expense). -Almshouses (14th century historical gem). -Old Windmills. -Kruispoort (old city gate) -Hotel Casselbergh ·Finally, we'd return to Burg square -or the place we began from-.
