My name is Laís Tammela. As cariocas say, I am "carioca da gema" (which means I was born and raised in Rio). I love to travel, but most of all, I love to share with others my love for the city of Rio de Janeiro!
I am certified by Ministério do Turismo to serve as a tour guide in Brazil and South America. I am also a Biology Bachelor and licensed for teaching Science and Biology.
For seven years, I worked as a Science and Biology teacher, attending students from 5 to 17 years old.
In 2000, I lived in Brisbane, Australia, where I studied English and worked in an Australian Zoo. That was a great experience!!
In 2007, I lived in Dallas, U. S. , where I studied tourism, worked at Farmers Branch CVB and taught Biology at Richland College.
For years I have hosted my friends from all over the world in Rio and I just LOVE to do it!
Since 2009, I decided to become a full-time professional tour guide. I take private tours in Rio with my car (Toyota Etios Sedan) but I can also make arrangements for larger groups (up to 42 people).
I am fascinated about different people and cultures and it is with great pleasure that I spend the day sharing the "carioca's way of life" and Brazilian culture with others.
Also I am very interested in Brazilian history and politics and I am always studying to enhance my knowledge about every single aspect of Rio's attractions.
In 2014, I had a marvelous season in Europe, living in Berlin for 4 months and travelling through Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Holland, France, Germany, Denmark and Austria.
Currently, I am looking for a place in Afrika or Asia to take my next adventure!
If you are willing to become a citizen of the world, like myself, come visit Brazil and share with me the wonders of Rio de Janeiro city!! I will tailor the tours according to your interests.
Be my guest!!
****** REGARDING COVID-19 ***********
Rio de Janeiro government is setting guidelines to ensure both visitors' and Tour guides' safety, regarding COVID-19. They include and I have added some:
-Every visitor and Tour guide must carry, at least, 3 masks on each tour, per person. To be replaced every 2-4 hours. Everyone is responsible of bringing their own masks.
-Masks must be used during the entire time of the tour, in or out of vehicles.
-For tours in private cars, the Tour guide must occupy the front part of the vehicle alone. All other passengers will travel in the back seats. The windows of the vehicle must remain open during the tour. (I know this will be hard in our Summer in Rio, but it is for yours, mine and our families safety).
- Eating and drinking is not allowed inside vehicles.
-Every person must carry sanitation napkins or alcohol 70% to constantly clean their hands and arms.
-People presenting fever, constant coughing or sneezing (even using masks) will not be allowed to join any tour. The Tour guide will assist you in finding proper health care.
-Dealing with money in cash must be avoided.
-Touching people to greet or help get in and off of vehicles should be avoided.
-Touching personal items like cell phones and cameras should be avoided.
-Speaking close to people, even in open areas, must be avoided.
-The Tour guide will have all the information to help you in case of any medical assistance.
I am prepared and fully equiped to take the best care of you in Rio. Let's enjoy travelling together again :-)
A Recent Review of this guide
Superb tour experience. Guide was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and flexible in our plans. Botanical gardens were lovely and as a biologist and teacher, our Lais was engaging and made our first 4-5 hours in Rio welcoming and fun! Highly recommend.
