A "crash course" in Art History through the treasures of the Louvre
From its origins in Greek Roman culture and its deep roots in Christianity, we will explore art's progression through Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-Classicism and Romanticism. I will supply you with a "cheat sheet" to help you remember the characteristics of each movement. We will meet the key artists, discover what influenced them and learn some of the tricks of their trade. Among the many greats on our list are Leonardo de Vinci, Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian, Delacroix and David.
Of course no visit is complete without seeing the great ladies of the Louvre - Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace and . . . . (if open on the day) a "secret mystery" painting.
I hope that after our 3 hour stroll through the world's biggest and most famous museum, you will have become a real art history buff with no effort, just pleasure.
Larger groups (schools, associations etc) can be accommodated on request.
And by the way. . . . . . the ONLY way to skip the sometimes huge lines is with a guide
We will start in the Denon wing to see the Winged Victory of Samothrace, follow the story of the Italian Renaissance from its beginning until the start of Baroque, back to Mona Lisa and the largest painting in the museum. Continuing through the large format French Romantics and Neoclassics (Delacroix/Géricault/David) ending in Antiquity with Venus de Milo. Of course the itinerary is flexible according to your particular interests.

Catherine was outstanding. She made sure we saw the Mona lisa first thing —so there were no crowds and we then leisurely hit the high points of the musuem. 2 1/2 hours or so was the right amount of time for our family of five. I don't see experiencing this museum without a guide to give you direction. She wraps the tour around art history in a well thought out and organized way. We also took her highlights of the right bank tour. It too was special and would highly recomend this as well.
