I've lived and worked in San Francisco since 1975, and am quite fond of—and, perhaps, slightly jaundiced toward—my long-adopted home, a. k. a. "The City". I have been numbered as a local student/practitioner of fine, commercial and industrial arts: commercial graphics, multi-media design, and as a craftsman in our once-mighty commercial printing industry. I'm occasionally zealous in defense/restoration of natural habitats, parks, regional agriculture, and historic architecture. Special appreciation must go to food—glorious food! Cosmopolitanism has its benefits; San Francisco is a foodie's paradise. The ride never ends. Truly I am a tourist in my own life here in "The City", "Baghdad by the Bay", "The Queen of the Pacific", "Fog City", or (more poetically) "the cool, grey city of love". Silicon Valley stands for many things here in America and around the world. Silicon Valley's own creation stories (of the now mighty) are still fresh, where garages have become Historic Monuments, and where corporate HQ's put a modern twist on greatness. We take our pilgrimage to the sites of origin: Hewlett-Packard's and Steve Jobs' garages (both now historic monuments). We visit Stanford, the University that fed Silicon Valley technology and talent. We admire tech giants' headquarters "campuses", both corporate and governmental. * This tour is both fully guided AND fully chauffeured, the smoothest and most considerate use of your time.
Departure from San Francisco via Route 101. . . * Facebook Thumbs Up Sign (picture stop) * Hewlett-Packard's Original Garage * Stanford University (Visitor Center) * Googleplex * The Android Garden (picture stop) * NASA Ames (Visitor Center) * Steve Jobs' Original Garage * Apple Park (Visitor Center) . . . return to San Francisco via scenic Route 280. I guide—and a professional driver drives. It all happens via a TCP licensed limousine (SUV) provided through Tours by Locals. Unlike coaches (a.k.a. 'buses') we enjoy unrestricted access to all public roadways. Having a dedicated driver minimizes unnecessary waiting and fussing over parking, etc. Plus, it frees me to devote myself completely to your adventure.
