Hello and welcome. I have lived and worked in the Bay area since the 1970's. In 2010 I became a tour guide , specializing in local tours. Since then I've conducted thousands of tours for many different groups including over 400 for ToursByLocals. I never tire of showing the beauty, the bustle, and the excitement of our area to visitors and residents alike. In 2015 I became a "certified guide" per the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild. I hope you will visit the Bay area and join me for a tour soon! My tours vary depending on my group. Many of my tours originate in San Francisco, where I serve as a step-on guide for large groups on a motorcoach. I also enjoy conducting walking tours (Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, Mission Murals, the Castro ) public transportation tours (trolleys, buses, and cable cars), and driving tours using a private limo service or Uber. Besides San Francisco, I also conduct tours in Silicon Valley, San Jose, Napa and Sonoma wine country, Monterey and Carmel, Muir Woods and Sausalito, Point Reyes, and unique destinations chosen by visitors. I can also conduct campus tours of Berkeley, Stanford, and other nearby universities. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking the hills around the Bay, reading books about the people and places of the area, and discovering new perspectives about California to add depth to my tours. Exploring this landscape is always new, always fresh, and always inspiring. I thrill at uncovering little-known and yet significant events in and around the Bay area. I welcome you to tour the area with me and deepen your appreciation for the Bay area. I have been a Bay area resident since 1977 and attended International Tour and Management Institute in 2010, becoming a Certified Tour Director. Since then I have been leading tours in and around the Bay area, the state of California, the Pacific Northwest, and the East Coast (Washington DC and NYC). In October 2015 I qualified as a "certified tour guide" per the requirements of the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild. I have taken numerous continuing education courses at Stanford to expand my knowledge including "Innovations in Silicon Valley", and "The History of California" with the late Kevin Starr. I have a BA (English) from Calvin College and an MA (General Studies in the Humanities) from University of Chicago I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver

Many of the areas of San Francisco are accessible by public transportation or within walking distance. For our tour, we will create a customized itinerary for you and your group using the Municipal bus system, BART and the cable car. Enjoy the beautiful city the way the locals do. I am a San Francisco Tour Guide Guild certified tour guide who has offered tours of the city since 2010. I know many of the unusual features of the city as well as the highlights. The bus and subway systems of the city offer a new and intimate way to experience San Francisco like a local.

An excellent introduction to San Francisco! Sharon is a great guide who shared her vast knowledge about the city by the bay with wonderful enthusiasm. We covered a lot of ground and made good use of the public transportation network, including buses, cable cars and street cars. From the Bay Bridge in the east to the Golden Gate Bridge in the west. From Fisherman's Wharf to the birthplace of Jack London. The streets and the parks. And a bit of everything in between. Yoda was a special moment for me. Thank You for a superb tour Sharon!
Great tpur and tour guide. Very knowledgeable of the history and current events of San Francisco. Very concerned for us getting the best experience and extremely helpful with all our requests.
Took a 6 hour tour of the city with Sharon as our guide using public transportation and had a great day. Sharon was so knowledgeable and pleasant and was able to cover most of the areas that we requested to see. She was able to accommodate our limitations and was flexible enough to make a couple of changes that we asked for. Would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone wanting to see the city
My husband and I had a wonderful day (9a-3:30p) with Sharon! It was at our pace, and she accommodated us at every turn. She shared lots of history and many interesting facts. We tried delicious food from bakeries in Chinatown, enjoyed clam chowder near Fisherman's Wharf, drank Irish coffee at The Buena Vista, bought chocolate at Ghirardelli Square--all things we wanted to do and Sharon made it happen--and this was in between all the other wonderful sites! Thank you, Sharon!
Sharon is an amazing guide, she really made the difference! It was very easy to organize an adaptation of a tour for our group - walking and bus 5h (21 people including children) considering our interests, needs and Sharon's experience. She is really knowledge about history and actuality of the city... she adapts the tour accordingly with the on-going conversation and makes the most to surprise you.
We will meet at your hotel or a central meeting location such as the Ferry Building. We will proceed on foot and by public transportation to see the city up close. Popular destinations by public transportation include: -Golden Gate Bridge -The Presidio-former army base and now a park. It hosts some of the oldest structures in the city -The Mission--where it all began. Today a mecca for foodies as well as having many murals in the streets and alleyways -Golden Gate Park-nature in the city and art and science as well. Visit the Japanese Tea Garden, Botanical Gardens, Academy of Science, and the De Young art museum, as your interest takes you -Fisherman's Wharf--more than a tourist attraction, also a working wharf , a source of Maritime history, sourdough bread, and the California sea lions -Chinatown--part of the oldest section of San Francisco, visit a temple and enjoy a fortune cookie made in front of you -Union Square--bustling with shoppers and commerce, a center of town Lands End--lets visit the ocean
