Hi there, glad you're thinking of coming to Boston. I adopted Boston as my home town 20 years ago and loved being an informal tour guide to friends and family so much, I made it my profession. I'm originally from Scotland, and so much of Boston's history has links to the UK, I felt instantly at home here. I'm naturally a curious person so moving to a new city gave me a whole load of stuff to explore and learn about. I'm a keen social historian, and have attended lots of courses and lectures about Boston & American history and continue studying to broaden my own knowledge and add content to my tour. Knowing the history of the city is interesting, but my time as a tour guide has taught me that history isn't everybody's cup of tea! The great thing about being a private tour guide is that I can customize each tour to exactly what the group is keen to see and hear about. I'm full of current day stories, fun facts, useless bits of info about the city, famous movie scenes, real estate prices, shopping tips and off the beaten path spots that help me make each tour unique. Boston has such a lively atmosphere and as a foodie who enjoys wine & cocktails I'm always out and about in the city researching places to eat, drink, watch sports, catch a show or live music. This "research" I pass along with tips and suggestions of places to go (and avoid) while in Boston. I love people, and have an up beat, light hearted and relaxed style to touring. I'm Boston's only female driving private tour guide, and am approved and licensed by the Boston Transportation Commissioner and Boston Police Department. I've been a professional private tour guide for 10 years and do driving tours in a new, livery insured 4 passenger Lexus (no space for luggage). Please don't hesitate to get in touch for more info about my Boston tours, any questions you might have or if you need some help customizing a tour, would love to hear from you. Cheers Joan Boston's only fully licensed female driving tour guide Approved to conduct driving tours by Boston Transportation Dept & Boston Police Dept Driving a livery insured vehicle No restrictions

If you've always wanted to visit this infamous town, then let's do it during your visit to Boston. There's so much more to Salem than witch history, but I couldn't bring you here without talking about the events of 1692. I share the context of what was happening in the area around this time, and the theories of what led up to this historic event. We'll walk through the main downtown area, visiting everything from the the witch trials memorial to the old town hall. If you're intrigued by the trials themselves, you should go into the witch history museum. If you'd rather skip the museum, we'll use the time wisely by visiting other parts of Salem. The return journey and tour is 4 hours, I'm happy to customize it to accomplish the things you're most interested in.
Here's an idea of the options we have of how to spend time in Salem: - 45 minute highway drive from Boston to Salem - along the way I'll share the background of what led up to the witch trials - if you'd like to see a reenactment of the trials, you should visit the witch history museum (admission not included in price of tour, and entry can't be guaranteed) - walking tour of the main points of interest, famous movie scenes and witch trial memorial - stop into a hex shop - drive into the McIntire historic district - 45 minute highway drive back to Boston ALTERNATIVE to going into the museum: - we'd re-allocate this time by giving you time to wander into some quirky stores - or take a more scenic route back to Boston I pick up and drop off at any downtown hotel or accommodation, at the cruise terminal or will arrange to meet at a convenient place in the city. I typically start around 10am, but if a different time suits you better, message me and hopefully I can make it work.
