Hello from Boston, I arrived here from Ireland over 30 years ago, and as soon as I got off the plane I knew I was here to stay. I'm a huge history buff, and love to hear and read about people. I'm lucky, I have a great memory for details, names and dates, and with a touch of the "blarney" am able to tell a good story. Content is key to being a private tour guide, and I've built up a wide range of stories. I have deep knowledge of Revolutionary War, and military history, but I know that's not for everybody and can go into as much or little detail as needed. There's so much more to the Boston area than history. . . . . architecture, ghost stories, Irish migration, movies scenes, sports and colleges to name a few and so over the years I just keep adding stories and fun facts to my content. Part of what brought me to Boston was to play music, so when I'm not playing, I'm probably out listening to music or having dinner and drinks somewhere in the city. This lets me keep current with what's happening around Boston and I've loads of recommendations to pass on of places to check out. Being a private tour guide is my ideal job, I love being around and talking to people, telling and listening to stories and having some laughs. I've a glass half full outlook on life and a good humored, easy going personality. I'm an approved and licensed city tour guide, do walking tours of the Freedom Trail in Boston and driving tours around the Greater Boston area. Please send me a message if you'd like help putting a tour together, I've done a lot of private customized tours and have lots of off the beaten path ideas. Look forward to touring with you. All the best Martin Fully licensed driving tour guide. Approved to conduct driving tours by Boston Transportation Dept & Boston Police Dept. Driving a livery insured vehicle. Also licensed to conduct walking tours. none

Overview of your Boston tour

On this half day private driving tour we'll cover the sites of Boston, and the neighboring town of Cambridge - famous for its' colleges. As we drive along Boston's Freedom Trail, I'll share stories of the city's almost 400 year history, the events, people and sites that make Boston unique. We'll drive into the oldest and most modern neighborhoods of Boston, pull in at certain sites to compare old and new and I'll share pictures on my iPad that help give context to current day Boston. All the classics like Old North Church and Paul Revere House are covered, as well as icons like Fenway Park and the Cheers Bar. We'll cross the Charles River to MIT which has some great quirky stories. Then on to the historic campus of Harvard. I never miss a photo opp, so on the way back we'll pull in to admire the city skyline. As we tour around, I'm happy to offer suggestions of places to visit, bar and restaurant recommendations. Please contact me for more info, with questions or for help customizing your tour.

Martin was a pleasure to be with. His knowledge of the history of Boston and Cambridge was on point . He was engaging in conversation and stories which made the tour most enjoyable. He is professional and has a talent to be insightful of the clients he is with. He followed up with us after the tour which was so thoughtful. I would recommend him to everyone and can’t wait to visit Boston again and have him show us more!!

Martin was an outstanding guide. He showed us so many places in the city in a very knowledgeable, approachable and relaxed way. I loved how Martin also showed us historical visuals to the stories he told us about this beautiful city. Our son will be moving to the Boston and Martin made sure to point out the places to avoid and give him lots of great suggestions as well. He is a great resource and his friendliness and knowledge made this tour awesome! Highly recommended.

Our guide was very knowledgeable, interesting and humorous. He took two 70 ish grandparents and their 16 year old granddaughter on a great tour of Boston, Cambridge, Lexington and Concord. I only wish I would have recorded all of the information he shared with us. So much history! I highly recommend Martin for anyone who wants to see the real Boston area. You'll find out how many John Hancocks there really were and it will surprise you.

Martin did a great job for us. He was very knowledgeable about all things Boston. He was able to show historical pictures to help us reference the current landmarks. We loved his recommendations for lunch and dinner. He is quite a comedian to boot! We highly recommended Martin for your tour of Boston.

Your Boston tour itinerary

We'll cover a lot in 4 hours. . . some sites we'll drive by, some we'll pause for a story or photo and there's a couple that you might want to go into. I like to keep this flexible, so you can tell me which you're keen to stop at. This will give you an idea of what we cover. . . . Drive the Freedom Trail sites of: - Boston Common - State House - Granary Burial Ground - Kings Chapel - Old South Meeting house - Old State house (stop for a story and photo) - Faneuil Hall - Old North Church (time to go into the famous church) - Paul Revere house - USS Constitution - Bunker Hill (great battle story) Historic neighborhoods of: - North End (known as Italian north end, we can stop of a cannoli if you have a sweet tooth) - Charlestown - Beacon Hill (photo stop) - Back Bay & Fenway Park - Copley Square Cambridge: - across the Charles river - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Harvard Square - optional walking tour of Harvard Yard (subject to parking & time) - city skyline with photo stop
