Hi there, glad you're thinking of coming to Boston. I adopted Boston as my home town 20 years ago and loved being an informal tour guide to friends and family so much, I made it my profession. I'm originally from Scotland, and so much of Boston's history has links to the UK, I felt instantly at home here. I'm naturally a curious person so moving to a new city gave me a whole load of stuff to explore and learn about. I'm a keen social historian, and have attended lots of courses and lectures about Boston & American history and continue studying to broaden my own knowledge and add content to my tour. Knowing the history of the city is interesting, but my time as a tour guide has taught me that history isn't everybody's cup of tea! The great thing about being a private tour guide is that I can customize each tour to exactly what the group is keen to see and hear about. I'm full of current day stories, fun facts, useless bits of info about the city, famous movie scenes, real estate prices, shopping tips and off the beaten path spots that help me make each tour unique. Boston has such a lively atmosphere and as a foodie who enjoys wine & cocktails I'm always out and about in the city researching places to eat, drink, watch sports, catch a show or live music. This "research" I pass along with tips and suggestions of places to go (and avoid) while in Boston. I love people, and have an up beat, light hearted and relaxed style to touring. I'm Boston's only female driving private tour guide, and am approved and licensed by the Boston Transportation Commissioner and Boston Police Department. I've been a professional private tour guide for 10 years and do driving tours in a new, livery insured 4 passenger Lexus (no space for luggage). Please don't hesitate to get in touch for more info about my Boston tours, any questions you might have or if you need some help customizing a tour, would love to hear from you. Cheers Joan Boston's only fully licensed female driving tour guide Approved to conduct driving tours by Boston Transportation Dept & Boston Police Dept Driving a livery insured vehicle No restrictions

As if there wasn't enough to show you in Boston, we are lucky enough to have Cambridge right next door. If you've always wanted to see what Harvard is really like or hear about some of MITs' "hacks" then the extra hour added to my Boston tour is for you. We'll drive Boston's Freedom Trail, as we go I'll share stories of the city's almost 400 year history, the events, neighborhoods, people and sites that make the city so unique. When we've hit all the Boston stuff, we'll cross the "Smoot bridge" (can't wait to tell you that story) to Cambridge where MIT sits right on the Charles River. Onto Harvard to soak up all that academic energy and there's a perfect spot on the way back to get a great skyline view. As we tour around, I'll offer suggestions of places to visit, bar and restaurant recommendations.
Lot's to cover, so I'll make sure to prioritize these so we spend the time at the places you're most interested in: Drive the Freedom Trail sites of: - Boston Common - State House - Granary Burial Ground - Kings Chapel - Old South Meeting house - Old State house - Faneuil Hall - Old North Church - Paul Revere house - USS Constitution - Bunker Hill Historic neighborhoods of: - North End - Charlestown - Beacon Hill - Back Bay Other places of interest: - Boston Harbor & Greenway - Seaport area - Fenway Park Cambridge: - across the Charles river - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Harvard Square - optional walking tour of Harvard Yard (subject to parking availability) - city skyline views I pick up and drop off at any downtown hotel or accommodation, at the cruise terminal or will arrange to meet at a convenient place in the city. I typically start around 10am, but if a different time suits you better, message me and hopefully I can make it work.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
