Let me introduce myself. My name is Susana and I've been guiding in Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, and Avila for over twenty years now as a full-time activity, and. . . . here I am, still on stage. I am happy to say that I have done over 500 tours only with ToursByLocals during the last 9 years. This hasn't been my only job ever, I have been teaching languages since. . . always, as this is the family business, and I got to know the tourism industry since I was very young as it was my early passion. Hotels, airlines, tour director. . . All these experiences have made me a very versatile person, which helps a lot with my actual activity. For six years I have been the Chairman of the Madrid Tourist Guide Association, which shows my compromise with and faith in this profession which I find absolutely wonderful, as it is so to be able to share with my guests, my friends, all the magnificent heritage that surrounds me. I find so much satisfaction in seeing how you are delighted with your holiday choice that it encourages me, even more, to make more and more research to share it all with you. Overview of your Madrid tour
From the pre-Roman times to the 21st Century. Mainly known as the "former capital of Spain". The Romans made of it an important city, which now we know - thanks to recent archeological research - is at least 4, 000 years old. After that, the barbarians made it the capital of the Visigothic Kingdom. 100 years after the creation of Islam, it became a Muslim-ruled city for 400 years. Then it became a border-line city till the 13th century when a new period begins, the former main Mosque turns into a new Gothic cathedral church finished one year after the discovery of America, it's an amazing building. Let's not forget the relationship between the role played by Toledo's Jewish community and the European Renaissance! All these cultures have left a trail of magnificent buildings and works of art, which speak for themselves. Best, come over and enjoy the experience!

Susana is a pro. She clearly knows Toledo and has deep connections there. We learned about Jewish and Christian history and explored art and architecture in depth. She engaged my two teenage children and kept everyone in mind as we toured. We even had a chance to visit a few generations-old shops to see some of the specialty crafts of the area. It was a lovely day.
