I'm Art Historian and I love this museum, in my opinion the Thyssen Museum is one of the most charming & delicated museums in Madrid, and you can discover it with an expert. For 2h we will discover what is internationally considered the best private art collection of the 20th century and one of the best museums in Europe. Just awesome! It started at the end of the 19th century, when the steel industry entrepreneur Baron August Thyssen-Bornemisza, bought a collection of marble sculptures designed by the famous artist Rodin, today in the museum's lobby. His successor, his son, Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, continued the collection until his son greatly expanded it. This varied collection covers art from the Middle Ages until the twentieth century. The last Baron married Spanish lady Carmen Cervera, the current Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza. In 1992, Baron decided to move the collection to Madrid. How lucky we are!
Will meet in the beautiful garden of the museum, the building is an old and elegant palace from the 18th century. -After meeting and introducing myself, I will give you an introduction about the collection, the collector and the building. -We will see the delicate sculptures by Rodin in the museum's lobby and the huge canvas of "La Gloria" by Tintoretto. -Will go up to the top floor to enjoy Italian medieval art (Trecento), you will discover other Italian artists such as Fra Angelico, Carpaccio, Ghirlandaio, Titian, Canaletto or the great Bernini. -We will go through the rooms to discover the wonderful paintings of Rubens and the great Rembrandt, El Greco, Fragonard, the German Lucas Cranach and Goya! -If you like the Impressionism, I'll also explain Monet, Manet, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir, Van Gogh. . . -The Thyssen collection is very varied, so we will end with some examples by Picasso, Dali, Pollock, Rothko, Francis Bacon. . . And some surprises for you. Do no hesitate to contact me for a customized tour.
