The Palace of Villahermosa houses some 800 pictures that were part of the magnificent collection of the Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza, who died in 2002. This collection was acquired by the Spanish State in 1993 and it is one of the must-see museums for Art Lovers in Madrid. The paintings are ordered chronologically and offer an impressive sample of western art ranging from the 13th century up to present: Jean Van Eyck, Antonello da Messina, Hans Holbein, Lucas Cranach the Elder, Albert Dürer, Caravaggio, Canaletto, Rubens, Rembrandt, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Vincent Van Gogh, Degas. . .
