Toledo is located only 70 km / 43 miles south of Madrid so it's perfect for a daytrip out of town. The city was the old capital of Spain untill 1561, when Madrid became the capital. Toledo is World Heritage by UNESCO since 1985 due to its well preserved monuments and old section, fully walled. The city is also known as the city of the Three Cultures because during Middle Ages Muslims, Jewish and Cristians lived together there. Visiting Toledo is a journey into the past where you'll discover a city where time stopped in the 16th century. The city has outstanding monuments like the Alcazar or the Cathedral, The Jewish Quarter, exceptionally well preserved with its two visitable synagogues or The Muslim section, with one of the few mosques built in the 10th century still standing. A walk in Toledo is a must if you're visiting the central part of Spain and the city never ceases to amaze.
