¡Hola! I'm a 38 year old Belgian historian living in Madrid. I came here for love and on top of that I ended up adoring my new city. I am a very social person so I wanted to share my love for the city with other people. I like cultural activities as going to the movies, theatre and visiting museums, I practice a lot of sports (I love snowboarding, surfing, cycling and triathlon) and I have a passion for languages, books and music. After my Master Studies in History, I started working in development work. I managed projects in Philippines, South Africa and Burundi. My first contact with the tourism business was when I decided to combine my passion for snowboarding with my passion for people. So I became a guide for tour operators in the French Alpes for two winter seasons. Later, I also lived in Istanbul where I worked as a tour guide for a biking company. When I arrived in Madrid and I loved the city so much, I decided to continue my work as a city guide. I adore showing people around and telling stories about my precious hometown so much that my friends even call me Guide Madrid Caroline. I would also love to show you around this wonderful city. I can guide you to the best museums, historical buildings, parks, scenic points or nice places and streets. I assure you a unique and authentic experience off the beaten path and into the hidden treasures and secrets of the city. I can be flexible with your agenda and fulfill any specific interests you may have. Let me know your preferences and schedule and I will come up with an itinerary that suits your requirements and personal profile. With me, you and Madrid will fall in love at first sight! Looking forward to meet you soon, Caroline - Master's Degree in History - Official licensed guide - Bachelor Degree in Nursing - Emergency Medical Responder (10 years of experience as a lifeguard, firefighter and emergency nurse)

Hardly any other artist created such a wide range of work spanning so many eras and styles as Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, known simply as Goya in English. Goya's lifetime in the 18th and 19th century saw many upheavals in politics, society and culture that are also reflected in his works. During my Gorgeous Goya Tour in Madrid we'll get a very broad view on the unstable and tumultuous Spain of that era by discovering plenty of the artist's marvellous works. His entire work tends to look both ways, showing styles ranging from classic academic art to what would become Modernism, with tender and playful Rococo and classical elegance to rugged realism and dark Romanticism. His painting is as famous as his drawings, with which he set new standards. He painted and drew the life that surrounded him and increasingly made people in general his subject. Goya turned his eye to the margins of society and taboos, including the Inquisition, jail and madhouse scenes. Get as fascinated as me by Goya's duality!
My Gorgeous Goya Tour will lead you to all the corners of Francisco de Goya's imagination. We'll discover his early works, his tapestry sketches, frescos, court paintings, portraits, socially critical etchings and his black paintings which he made on the walls of his latest house in Spain. I'll take you to three different museums, of which one is the famous Prado museum, the other one is the art academy of which he was a director and the last one is a way lesser known museum Lázaro Galdiano. On top of that we'll visit the church where Goya made his famous frescoes in Madrid. We'll walk through his life and you'll be even able to pay him a tribute at his grave. This itinerary can of course be adapted to your own specific interests. Do not hesitate to contact me for a customised tour.
