Zafra Castle is a 12th-century castle, a prime example of a rock castle, notable for its location in an area of rugged terrain, where the keep, built atop the rocky cliff, stands out. HBO filmed outdoor scenes for the sixth season of its fantasy series Game of Thrones at the castle. According to its current owner, Daniel Antonio Sanz, the producers were "looking for a remote location far from any buildings." The castle represents the Tower of Joy in three episodes of the season, "Perjured," "Blood of My Blood," and "The Winds of Winter," during flashback scenes that reveal a secret from Ned Stark's past. The castle of Molina de Aragón, dates back to a fortress built by the Andalusians on an ancient Celtiberian fort between the 10th and 12th centuries, where the kings who ruled this taifa established their residence. From this fortress, these feudal lords governed the territory and the town of Molina until the end of the 13th century.
