Hola! My name is Carmen M, I was born and raised in Madrid and I am working as a guide since 2003 (I do not even want to think how long this is!) I got my license as Oficial Guide of Madrid in 2017. I started working as a guide when I was in college, I am a licensed Architect so I always loved art, culture. . . and as you will see also love talking to people, food, nature, so even before I finished my studies I knew what I wanted to do when I get older, and this was to show people around not only the big monuments or masterpieces but also those special details that makes our city Madrid and the ones around so special. No matter how many times I visit those places I am always fascitated. My first contact with the world of tourism was as a Tour Director, I traveled to many places all over the world, and I always loved the local guides who were explaining about their cities, and I even although I love traveling and meeting new places after some years doing that job I decided I wanted to stay closer to family, friends. . . and show my own world to the people visiting us. Madrid has so much to offer you should think about staying longer (no matter how long you plan to stay)! I also enjoy Nature very much, specially the mountains, great views, silence, fresh air. . . and we are lucky Madrid is a very green city and with beautiful Natural Parks very close to the center. So I hope to meet you soon, I can promise Madrid will not dissapoint you!! See you in Madrid! I am Licensed Oficial Guide in region and city of Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Avila and Salamanca. I have a Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning by the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and the TU of Vienna None

The Monastery of El Escorial, is one of the most important complex we have, not only in Madrid but in the whole Spain. One of the first monuments protected by the UNESCO in 1984. It was built in in the 16th century by the King of Spain Phillip II, and it includes a Basilica, a Library, the Royal Cript where all the kings of Spain since Charles I are buried, the Royal residences, a school. . . , such a fantastic building that will always surprise you. The location was also chosen by the king who loved the mountains and hunting, we wont hunt in this visit but we will do a hike in the mountains to get to the famous chair of Phillip II from where he supervised the construction of the monastery.
We will leave early in the morning from Madrid by private van, that will pick you up where you are staying and we will drive north west out ot the city for an hour . We will visit the Monastery and after a little time for lunch in the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where the complex is located we will do a hike to get to different places where we will be able to get the best views over the huge Monastery. THe program is flexible and we can discuss before the level of the ttrkking so it is possible for everyone to do it and enjoy it! Also very close is the Valley of the Fallen, a controversial Monument and Basilica built after the Civil War of Spain, where Franco was and still is buried (this is going to change eventually). After that our van will bring us back to Madrid.
