Hola! My name is Carmen M, I was born and raised in Madrid and I am working as a guide since 2003 (I do not even want to think how long this is!) I got my license as Oficial Guide of Madrid in 2017. I started working as a guide when I was in college, I am a licensed Architect so I always loved art, culture. . . and as you will see also love talking to people, food, nature, so even before I finished my studies I knew what I wanted to do when I get older, and this was to show people around not only the big monuments or masterpieces but also those special details that makes our city Madrid and the ones around so special. No matter how many times I visit those places I am always fascitated. My first contact with the world of tourism was as a Tour Director, I traveled to many places all over the world, and I always loved the local guides who were explaining about their cities, and I even although I love traveling and meeting new places after some years doing that job I decided I wanted to stay closer to family, friends. . . and show my own world to the people visiting us. Madrid has so much to offer you should think about staying longer (no matter how long you plan to stay)! I also enjoy Nature very much, specially the mountains, great views, silence, fresh air. . . and we are lucky Madrid is a very green city and with beautiful Natural Parks very close to the center. Segovia and Avila are both amazing places to visit and they are so close to each other and to Madrid that it is possible to visit them in only one day if we have our own transport. Avila is a small city in the region of Castilla Leon, the emblematic and perfectly preserved city walls will be the first thing we will see as we are aproaching the city, you will not forget this view!! The ancient ramparts guard many historic attractions that we will discover in our walk. Segovia has a fascinating history, we will start with the Roman Acueduct, 2000 years old. . . . and in our walk we will see the jewish quarter, the Cathedral and the Royal Castle.
This tour was our favorite activity in Spain. Carmen was very informative, but she made us feel like we were talking to a family friend. We particularly appreciated how she worked with us for a detour and her willingness to help us situate what we were learning in Spanish history and politics today. Thank you!
Carmen was first rate. She took us on a day tour from Seville to Avila and Segovia and could have guided us through any number of other important cities had we needed her assistance. Her detailed knowledge of the history was very impressive and she kept right up with my husband's queries no matter where we stopped. She was wonderful to spend the day with and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
We accompanied Carmen on a full day Avila and Segovia tour early in September and had a great time. Carmen made the day interesting and enjoyable. She is easy to be with, knowledgeable, and English is quite easy for her. She arranged our transport with a very pleasant and safe driver with a comfortable vehicle. We would not hesitate to engage Carmen on a future trip.
We will pick you up in your hotel, and after a bit more than an hour we will arrive to Avila. We will be here for a couple of hours and then we will travel one more hour to Segovia, where we will have some free time form lunch (let me recommend a few places!) and then we will go for a walk in this city before going back to the hotel in Madrid. The itineray is just a suggestion as it will be your private tour and we can customize it for you!
