Begin your sightseeing adventure with a tour of the Sterkfontein Exhibition Centre and the legendary Caves. Follow me to explore the exhibition above ground, before heading deep into the caves. I have been coming to this place for over 2 decades, so I'm very well acquainted with its ins and outs. I'll help you learn about the fascinating history behind these archeological sites and the discoveries that have been made here, some dating back to more than 4 million years ago. We'll also go to head to the Maropeng Visitor's Centre to see the award-winning, world class exhibition focused on the development of humans and our ancestors. Take a journey through time and learn about the evolutionary processes that worked together to create the world as we know it today!
Your Johannesburg tour itinerary
•Our tour will start with a pickup from your accomodation. •Our first stop will be reaching the Sterkfontein Caves. •On arrival, you will receive an introduction about the excavations made in the Caves' Orientation Museum. •Afterwards, we'll embark on a one hour guided tour into them. •As we descend into the caves, we'll come across an underground fresh water lake, surrounded by amazing stone formations. •After exploring the caves, depending on how hungry you are, we might have lunch at the caves' visitor centre, or after a 7 km drive to reach Maropeng's visitor's centre, both having nice cantines. •Then we'll get to the Maropeng Visitor's Centre where we'll see fossils and stone tools estimated to be up to 1 million years old. •On Maropeng, you'll have the incredibly unique opportunity to visit an underground museum going through a tunnel in a boat to see how the earth was formed over the years. •At last, I'll drive you back to your accomodation or place of choice. This itinerary can be customized.
