Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom Tour

I enjoy this tour especially because it has a particular Game of Thrones-like feel. The landscapes and the old settlements are actually there for centuries, so I see myself on the movie set every time I gaze the horizon. This will be an actual incursion into the history of the Bulgarian Empire with visiting the old capital fortress that today it's a real gem. The village of Arbanasi, on the outskirts of Veliko Tarnovo, offers another interesting perspective on life under Ottoman ruling. Same as the Romanians, they had a lot to do with these invaders and Christianity was merely banned here. The churches were made to be hidden in house-like buildings so everything feels like a medieval undercover op. The Nativity Church resembles, in terms of mural paintings, the Orthodox monasteries from North Moldova in Romania, but the entire village is a real feast for your eyes so it definitely worths the walk around.
