Hi, there! Welcome to Bucharest! I am Alina, your local guide. And I warmly invite you to join me on a private tour of Bucharest, exploring the best of my charming home town! With years of experience as a licensed guide, I bring to my tours a lot of local knowledge delivered in a professional, friendly and entertaining way. My background is actually in sociology: I studied Political Sciences & Sociology and during college and graduate school I lived abroad in Italy and in France. This has greatly improved my intercultural communication skills and made me even more passionate about sharing and "translating" Romanian culture. After doing my PhD in sociology, for several years I taught at the University and learned at least as much as I taught! It was a marvelous experience which helped me better communicate and capture the attention of an audience. As a professional licensed guide, my goal is to ensure the best private tours and experiences for travelers interested in more than scratching the surface. All my Bucharest private tours are ready to be tailored into custom tours to fit you perfectly: - adapting the tours to your pace and interests - including wine tastings, traditional lunches or street food and pastries stops on our tour - accommodating larger groups Looking forward to hearing from you and to welcoming you here! Best wishes from sunny Bucharest, Alina PhD in Sociology International experience: - ERASMUS mobility scholarship, Universita degli Studi di Padova, Italia - Doctoral mobility scholarship at the Anthropology Department, Universite Victor Segalen Bordeaux II, France Bachelor in Political Sciences and Sociology National Guide License First Aid - Red Cross certificate Foreign language certifications: English - TOEFL diplomas French - DELF diploma Italian - CILS diploma Spanish - DELE diploma The Palace of the Parliament has their own guides for the interior visits.

I invite you to join me on the Jewish Heritage tour of Bucharest, it would by my pleasure to share with you the history of the Jewish community in Romania! As I am also a sociologist by training, so on the tour I underline the historical context, demographics, social, economic and cultural diversity aspects that shaped Jewish history in Romania. For example, did you know that being at the crossroad of multiple European Empires, the Jewish community in Romania came from both the Sephardic and Ashkenazic strands of Judaism? Join me in traveling together through history and visiting the old Jewish neighborhood, with its beautiful synagogues, interesting museums, and outstanding Jewish State Theater (still performing theater plays in Yiddish). Bucharest has a beautiful Jewish heritage, a testimony across history, and I am very passionate about it and look forward to sharing it with you!
Jewish Heritage in the Old Jewish Neighborhood: - Choral Temple (main active synagogue) - Holy Union Temple (hosting the History Museum of the Jewish Community of Romania) - Great Polish Synagogue (closed for restauration works) - Jewish State Theater (outside view) - Architecture built by M. Iancu, local Jewish architect and artist (outside view) *** The visiting hours for the monuments (synagogues, museums etc.) are usually the following: - Monday through Thursday: 09:00 to 14:30 (9 am to 2:30 pm) both temples are open. - Friday: 09:00 to 12:00 (9 am to noon) only 1 temple is open. - Saturday: both temples are closed on Saturdays. - Sunday: 10:00 to 12:00 (10 am to noon) only one temple (now a museum) is open. We will reconfirm before the tour with the synagogues their schedules and let you know if the interior visits are possible in accordance with the their schedule on the day of the tour. Thank you for your understanding.
