Hello! I am Silvana, a passionate tour guide at your service. Welcome to Romania! Let my young demeanor not fool you - I am a BA in Art History with a master's degree in Museum Studies and a keen interest in social history, responsible tourism, and lifelong learning (among other things). I see myself really privileged to have such a wonderful profession: I get to meet people from all around the world, share quality time & conversations with them, do exciting new things and see the most beautiful places every day. It's not a job, I tell you, it's a dream come true! Why book a tour with me? *Born and raised in Bucharest, I know the city's most surprising details which I am eager to share with you on fun walking tours. *On my private half-day and full-day trips I do my best to provide more than so-called "facts". Instead, I try to offer fresh and nuanced insights into past and present Romania. *I am always up-to-date with all the exciting things around town - on my tours you will get lots of tips about what to see and do while in Bucharest. *Last but not least - all my tours are thoroughly prepared in advance and will be carefully adapted to your specific needs and interests. Got any questions or suggestions? Or want to book a tour? Drop me a line and I will get back to you in no time! Credentials: National Tourism Guide certified by the Romanian Ministry of Tourism BA in Art History and Theory (University of Bucharest) MA in Museum Studies and Critical Theory (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) I do not drive but can accompany you in your vehicle. FYI: Most museums in Bucharest are closed on Mondays & public holidays and some (like the Palace of Parliament and the Ceausescu Mansion) have their own guides for interior visits.

The aim of this tour is to offer tourists and expats a nuanced insight into Bucharest and Romanian society during the pre1989 regime. I was only 2 and a half when the local communist order fell apart. My first memories are flashes from the 1989 revolution. Ever since I've tried to understand the what, whys, and how it came down to such a bloody event. So though my age might seem like a disadvantage, I'd say it offers me a more objective and thoroughly researched view of post-WWII Romania. On this tour we'll talk about not just Ceausescu but also Stalinist era leader Gheorghiu-Dej; not just the harsh local austerity of the '80s but also the broader international context; not just the 1989 Revolution but also the 1944 occupation; not just the heads of the party but also the people they were ruling. Just keep in mind that on my tours there's a very strict 'all you can ask' policy!
This tour will take you to the most important sights related to Romania's communist past: * The Palace of Parliament also known as the House of the People (interior visit if possible); * The Revolution Square & the University Square where the 1989 uprising took place; * a typical working-class neighborhood and/or industrial remains of the communist era; * The lavish Ceausescu Mansion - optional interior visit (closed on Mondays). Flexibility is my middle name so do write to me if you want to change or add anything to the list.
