This is the tour for you if you are: - a traveler in love with art in all its forms - an expat wanting to better know and love this peculiar city - a researcher in the broad field of arts and culture with a touch of sociology - a local in search of a fresh look at Bucharest and its hidden gems. Although I've been instinctively doing it throughout my career, it's high time I use my art history background and love of such things to show you the hidden beauty of this rather chaotic city. And there's plenty to choose from - be they gorgeous collections of 19-century painting and sculpture, post-Byzantine religious architecture, surprising graffiti, and urban art spots, intimate Art Deco buildings, daring contemporary art events, or socialist era design and urbanism. It just goes to show that Bucharest really has it all and you'll be one of the few to know it. Shall we?
Your Bucharest tour itinerary
We'll start our tour with a talk - online or in person over a cup of coffee - so I know your art-related expectations. I'll then customize the experience to fit your specific artistic interests. If you're like me - curious about all art forms, past and present: * We'll see the National Art Museum (closed on Mondays & Tuesdays) for a general review of local painting and sculpture + a bit of context. * We'll then continue with a visit to a contemporary art gallery or the Contemporary Art Museum. * Maybe we'll also visit a 19-century artist's memorial house - up to you and circumstances such as opening hours. * We'll then have a stroll focusing on the unique architectural mix this city has to offer for those who know where to look. We might also check out some urban art in the process. * Most probably we'll stop to try the local culinary art and wine production somewhere along the way. * We will surely finish off with plenty of recommendations on what to see and do for the rest of your stay.
