Hello travelers! My name is Monika and I would love to be your local guide during your stay in Lithuania. I was born and raised in the capital city of Lithuania - Vilnius, which is still my hometown to this day. I am a historian, who is also interested in architecture, art and travel. Also a passionate cook and used to run an Italian restaurant of my own, therefore culinary history and local cuisine is another topic that interests me to a great extent. When not sharing my love for my own country, - my greatest pleasure is to travel the world! I have been working as a guide/tour leader for over 10 years in the Baltic region - Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Russia & Scandinavia. Not only guiding myself, but also training and supporting tour guides all over the world. In 2019 (yes, during the pandemic) I have finally opened my own guiding school for local guides and tour guides, training and teaching the future guide community of Lithuania. I am so proud to be one of the local guides in Vilnius as I have the possibility to learn and discover new things along with my travellers, share experiences and action-packed days with no time to be bored and to have the best reward - happy and excited faces of my guests. Lithuania is an amazing hidden gem of Europe and its capital Vilnius - an architectural chameleon. Due to Lithuania's struggles to retain national identity, today it is an incredibly proud country, more than happy to hang its tricolour flag from every possible pillar and post. Therefore, I am very pleased you have chosen Lithuania for your travels this time. Please note, I am happy to customize my tours or create new ones to your expectations around Vilnius, Lithuania and the Baltic States - just contact me. - Guiding license of Lithuanian State Department of Tourism; - Degree in History / Vilnius University; - Founder & CEO of the guiding school "GuideLines Academy"; - Mentoring tour guides all over the world for over 10 years; - Driver's license.

The Soviet Union is long gone, but the 50-year influence left a significant mark on today's Lithuanian capital - Vilnius. These Soviet scars come in shapes of Soviet memorials and statues, architecture, apartment blocks, culture and mentality of local people. There still remain some questions that are of great interest to a curious traveller. The tour attempts to highlight some key aspects of the USSR to answer those questions. Some of those are probably familiar: How good was life there? Were there queues to buy food? Was there poverty, unemployment, or inequality? Join me for a walk around Vilnius & learn how life in Vilnius was during the Soviet Occupation. We shall also have a full-on Soviet experience by visiting the famous Lukiskes prison, which will allow us to learn more about what it took for Lithuania to be the first one to break away from the Soviet club.
Main points of interest listed below (viewed from the outside): - Cathedral Square & the Miracle tile - Opera & Ballet Theater - Gediminas avenue - Lukiskes square & the KGB headquarters building (from outside) - The notorious Lukiskes prison - The Parlament building & the January 13th Memorial I can also add an inside visit to the KGB museum or to Lukiskes prison museum, just let me know. This tour can be customized to your wish.
