Hello travelers! My name is Monika and I would love to be your local guide during your stay in Lithuania. I was born and raised in the capital city of Lithuania - Vilnius, which is still my hometown to this day. I am a historian, who is also interested in architecture, art and travel. Also a passionate cook and used to run an Italian restaurant of my own, therefore culinary history and local cuisine is another topic that interests me to a great extent. When not sharing my love for my own country, - my greatest pleasure is to travel the world! I have been working as a guide/tour leader for over 10 years in the Baltic region - Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Russia & Scandinavia. Not only guiding myself, but also training and supporting tour guides all over the world. In 2019 (yes, during the pandemic) I have finally opened my own guiding school for local guides and tour guides, training and teaching the future guide community of Lithuania. I am so proud to be one of the local guides in Vilnius as I have the possibility to learn and discover new things along with my travellers, share experiences and action-packed days with no time to be bored and to have the best reward - happy and excited faces of my guests. Lithuania is an amazing hidden gem of Europe and its capital Vilnius - an architectural chameleon. Due to Lithuania's struggles to retain national identity, today it is an incredibly proud country, more than happy to hang its tricolour flag from every possible pillar and post. Overview of your Vilnius tour
If you were never fond of history classes at school as it was too many numbers and not enough of interesting stuff - this is a tour for you. And even if you are a history buff - this is a tour for you, as Lithuania has it all - amazing history of hundreds of years, head turning sights, heart melting stories, fascinating people and loads of photo ops. We start this tour by walking around the UNESCO Vilnius Old town, that will be followed by lunch at a local place tasting some local cuisine. After lunch we will continue with a 40min drive outside of Vilnius, to a town called Trakai, considered the de facto medieval Lithuanian capital. Trakai Castle is a red brick, fairy-tale like fortress built by Duke Vytautas and his father in the 14-15th centuries. After our visit to the main attraction - the Trakai Island Castle - we'll take a serene walk through Trakai to explore some more or maybe we'll take a short boat ride on the lake, if you wish.
