There are great tour guides, and then there are people who become part of your family’s story. Ichi is the latter.
We spent two unforgettable days with him, one exploring Osaka and one discovering Kyoto, and I can honestly say he transformed our vacation into something far more meaningful than we ever imagined.
We were traveling with our two children, who were running on very little sleep and had their fair share of jet-lag-induced meltdowns. Somehow, Ichi always knew exactly what to do. His patience seemed endless, and he had an incredible gift for connecting with them. Whether he was teaching them to count in Japanese, pulling out his maps and self-made guides, sharing fun facts and stories, or simply making them laugh, he turned every challenge into a moment of fun. By the end of our tour, our kids didn’t want to say goodbye.
What amazed us most was how naturally he balanced everyone’s interests. He made sure our children were engaged and excited while also creating opportunities for us as adults to enjoy ourselves. At one point, he happily took the kids shopping so I could browse on my own.
Ichi’s knowledge of Japan is extraordinary, but it’s the way he shares it that makes him exceptional. He effortlessly blended the iconic places you simply have to see with hidden gems that most visitors would never discover. We wandered peaceful streets, found incredible local spots, and experienced a side of Osaka and Kyoto that made us feel connected to the heart of Japan rather than just checking landmarks off a list.
But beyond his knowledge and professionalism, Ichi is simply a remarkable human being. He is kind, genuine, funny, endlessly patient, and completely invested in making every moment special. By the end of our two days together, it no longer felt like we were with a tour guid, it felt like we were exploring Japan with a dear friend who genuinely wanted us to fall in love with his country,
If you’re fortunate enough to book time with Ichi, don’t hesitate. It will be the best decision you make for your trip. He gave our family memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime, and we will always be grateful for the kindness, joy, and heart he brought to our journey. Thank you, Ichi, for making Japan feel like home.
Ichi-san is my all-time favorite tour guide!! He is smart, fun, and very funny. Exploring Osaka and Nara with Ichi-san is like traveling with a wonderful, caring friend, who happens to be so knowledgeable, yet easy going and relaxed. My husband and I were truly fortunate to spend two days with Ichi. He really is the BEST tour guide, and also the nicest person...we like him very, very much! Thank you Ichi!
We loved that this tour was two days one in Kyoto and one in Osaka. Our guide was fantastic and made everything totally customizable as we went to all the places we really wanted to see and he was able to get us there. He knew great places to eat and gave us a lot of information about the area. He was great as an interpreter when we were making purchases and even saved the day a few times when things got left behind and we never would have found our way back to where we had been on our own. We would definitely use him again if we were ever in this part of the world as we could try other places like Nara or even see more of what we couldn't see in just two days. this was our favorite tour of our 14 day trip to Japan!
Ichi-san guided us for two days across Osaka and Kyoto, and he's hands down one of the best guides we've ever had. His historical knowledge runs deep, but what really set him apart was how much he adapted everything to us. We're walkers, so he rebuilt the itinerary around that instead of just running us through a standard route.
He also taught us how to navigate the metro, rail, and bullet train system, which made getting to Hiroshima on our own for our final day completely stress-free. That alone saved us a ton of headache.
What we'll remember most is the small stuff. Every morning he'd pull out a map and walk us through the full day ahead, then teach us Japanese words along the way, including how to count. At the end of each day he handed us a written itinerary of everything we did, as a keepsake. We've had a lot of guides over the years and no one has ever done that. By the time the trip ended our daughter could count to 100 in Japanese, and honestly it felt less like we'd hired a guide and more like we'd made a friend.
If you're heading to Osaka or Kyoto, book Ichi-san. You won't get a better two days.
We spent two days with Ichi in Kyoto and Osaka, while stopped at Osake on a Celebrity Cruise on the Millenium. We saw so much and had a great time with him. His English is excellent and his love for his country was evident. He even taught us some Japanese while on the train. I can't recommend him enough. We feel like we have a friend in Osaka!
Excellent - due to our amazing guide, Toichi! He is extremely well informed of the history, culture, and traditions of the Japanese people. Because of him we were able to really appreciate the places we toured. He is extremely likeable with a quick smile and quick wit. I highly recommend him to anyone who has a deep interest in the Japanese way of life and history.
