Hello, I’m Maria, your local guide in Osaka and someone who has proudly called Japan home for 35 years. With decades of local life experience, deep roots in Osaka, and strong connections within the community, I will take you beyond tourist routes and into the heart of everyday Japan. Before becoming a guide, I worked as a kindergarten teacher and later trained as a caregiver. These roles shaped who I am today: warm, patient, attentive, and genuinely invested in people. Whether you are traveling with children, parents, or grandparents, I naturally adapt the pace so everyone feels comfortable, relaxed, and cared for. What makes my tours special is human connection. I love meeting people from all over the world and creating experiences that feel personal — not rushed, not scripted. I guide like a local friend. As an Osaka local, I know the city’s energy, humor, and soul. I know the streets, the hidden corners, and the people who make this city alive — from shop owners to neighborhood regulars. I am proud to share Osaka’s food culture, history, and everyday life. When you choose me, you get: A 35-year local resident with deep cultural insight A warm, caring guide trusted by families and seniors. Flexible, guest-focused tours tailored to your pace. Authentic experiences you won’t find in guidebooks. My goal is simple: When you leave Japan, I want you to feel that you didn’t just visit — you belonged. I can also customize tours creating experiences based on what my guests truly enjoy. Most of my tours are done by walking and taking subway like a local do. Our pace will be set by you. I'm looking forward to showing you the best of Osaka.

Learn why this city is known as Japan’s “Nation’s Kitchen.” This tour includes more than 8 kinds of popular foods across more than 3 carefully selected local food spots, and street foods and 2 kinds of local drinks, giving you a well-rounded introduction to Osaka’s most loved flavors. We’ll explore the nostalgic streets of Shinsekai, stroll through the quiet stone alley of Hozenji Yokocho, and finish in the lively atmosphere of Dotonbori while learning the stories behind the dishes and the neighborhood.

After having done a night/food tour of Tokyo on a previous trip we were looking forward to experiencing the food and night sites of Osaka’s Dotonbori precinct. Maria did not disappoint us, her communication skills and local knowledge provided us with a very enjoyable walk with stops at some great locations to sample the food and the vibe of some great little food outlets plus take in the sights and sounds of an iconic area. We would highly recommend Maria as a guide if you want to experience a small taste of what Osaka has to offer after dark.
What a lovely day with Maria! She has fantastic inside knowledge of the local culture and food, all of which she easily and eloquently shared with us (in English). From the first stop at a little food shop that seats less than 10 people, to our last stop in Dotonbori she kept us all engaged and completely full. I would recommend her Osaka food tour to everyone and anyone; we absolutely loved it. To give some additional context, we tried just about everything you could think of that is authentic Japanese: raw pufferfish, takoyaki, taiyaki, udon, gyoza, and matcha ice cream (just a sampling of what we had…). All of which was amazing.
We recently went on a food tour with Maria and had an amazing time! Being travel agents we get to go around the world and do alot of food tours. Even with the Golden Week holiday Maria took us to places where we were the only non-locals and a location I had requested. Each food stop was fantastic with the food never ending! We tried new food we had never experienced before and having a pro explain the food and the best way to eat it definitely helped us enjoy it more! If you are looking for someone who knows the area, gets you to amazing food locations you need to schedule with Maria! You can thank us later! :-)
Maria S. guided our party of 4 through the streets of Osaka. It was awesome! She has great knowledge of Osaka food culture and we tasted all the quintessential Osaka street foods. She is also just an absolutely lovely person in an absolutely lovely city. We enjoyed, in particular, the stops made in the very local Shinsekai neighbourhood. So much fun. Thanks Maria!
Wow! Maria was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and fun. Spoke English very very well. Went through the popular and the more local areas and tasted lots of food until I couldn’t eat anymore! Stood at 6 people bars, ate street food , sat in a 100 year old building for tepanyaki saw the sites, heard the history and overall had a great evening!
