Hi! My name is Giulia, I was born in Siena some years ago and more or less I've always been living here. As a very young woman, at 20 years old, I became mother for the first time, and after three years I had my second son. You can imagine that I had to live a double life: as a mother and wife, and as an Art History University student (so. . . triple?). After a while, I started to work as a licensed tour leader and receptionist too; in my lifetime I traveled a lot, I met thousands of people from all over the world, and now I put all my experience and knowledge in my job: guiding you to discover the beauty of my homeland. It's truly an honour for me to show how many masterpieces we have, and how many of them are nearly unknown! During the lockdowns I increased my skills studying Florence, Arezzo and Grosseto territories as well, and I became an hiking guide too: I'd love to hike with you along our long white roads, enjoying the so different kinds of countryside we can experience: Chianti, Valdorcia, Clay Hills, Valdichiana, everyone with its particular beauty, flora and fauna, and perfectly integrated hamlets and abbeys. You can ask me everything about the most important towns, churches, monuments spread all over my territory, and I'll be glad to offer you an informative and amazing tour, but, if you prefer, you can ask me to go off the beaten paths, and you'll be astonished by the richness and complexity of this country. . . In any case, you'll fall in love as well! Being baptyzed in the Shell Contrada, I'm so thrilled when I can explain how deeply tied we are to our Palio (horse race) tradition and what a long preparation is needed for this 1minute 20seconds long race, and that is not a fake touristic attraction. I really appreciate to finish my job in front of a glass of good wine, tasting some of our delicious homemade products, because I think these are all part of our culture: my real aim is to create special tours in which you can experience both art and nature, both craftsmanship and food, both wine and fun. So, if you think we have something in common, contact me for further info or check my availability. Let's see in Siena soon! B. From Etruscan times to Middle Ages Montepulciano was an important fortress looking over the Valdichiana Valley. It has been conquered several times by Siena and Florence in a sort of turnover and finally it became part of the Florence State, a thorn in the side for the Sienese Republic and a seasonal buen retiro for the Florentine noble families. That's why it's so important, in this case, to have an art historian as your local guide, because you can admire a lot of Renaissance palaces and loggias, beautiful masterpieces realized by famous Florentine and Sienese artists. Moreover, as I know the territory and the producers very well, I can introduce you to something that's truly local: the wine! Nobile di Montepulciano is a famous red wine, well known from XVI C. (now it's a DOCG) and even inside the old city walls you can visit some amazing old cellars dug by hand to produce and preserve wine bottles and barrels. So a wine tasting is mandatory!
- Walking tour of the city, visit to the Cathedral and to the church of S. Agostino (for free). - Entrance in the Town Hall and in the Main Tower (optional). - Visit to one historical cellar and wine tasting (extra cost). You can add the visit to the Art Museum or to the San Biagio temple but it would be a 1 hour extra, and an extra cost would be charged (write me for the rate). Remember: the tour schedule is totally flexible, and we can customize it over your preferences and interests!
