Classical Siena tour, 2.5 hours

This tour will take you in the historical centre of Siena, built on three hills and surrounded by 7 Km of medieval walls. This is where I was born and live. We, as modern "pilgrims", will walk along the main street, Banchi di Sopra, which was part of the former "via Francigena", the main communication road linking Northern Europe to Rome. You will visit the impressive Cathedral and its masterpieces inside, and the shell-shaped "Piazza del Campo", the most beautiful square in the world. Exactly there the Palio horse race takes place twice a year. This is a competition among the 17 "contrade" (districts) into which the city is divided. We will also visit San Domenico Basilica, full of works of art. Here is where the head of Saint Catherine from Siena is kept, in a beautiful Renaissance chapel.
