This tour guides you through the old, medieval city of Siena and its tradition, discovering the inside of San Domenico's Church with Saint Catherine's chapel, the Square of the oldest still operating bank in the world, Monte dei Paschi di Siena and one of the world's most breathtaking folk festivals, Il Palio. Looking at the outside of the "contrada" churches, horse stables and the little fountain you'll come to understand the fundamental role the long-standing Palio event plays in Sienese life and the sense of social belonging it creates. Equally essential stops are the unique Santa Maria Assunta Duomo, that I highly recommend to enter and Piazza del Campo, the arena where all the festivities take place on 2nd July and 16th August.
Roberta was an extremely knowledgeable guide for Siena. Her German & English skills were perfect. She was a patient guide and did not overwhelm us with information. Our 2,5 hour tour was excellent! I can't say enough good things about Roberta. She was absolutely wonderful. The tour of Siena was incredibly interesting and informative. Beyond that, Roberta made us feel so comfortable and was so easy to talk to. She really felt like a friend by the end of the tour. We took several tours on our trip to Italy, and Roberta was, by far, the best guide that we had. I wouldn't hesitate to take another tour with her in the future and would highly recommend her. She also gave great restaurant recommendations!
