I am a native Newyorker who calls Florence "home". I first came to Florence as a university student to study its art and history over 20 years ago. . . and I never left. After years of experience as an instructor of Art History for an American study abroad program, I decided to share my interests and passion for art with travelers. So when I am not teaching, I love taking visitors around the town, showing them all the sites from an insider's point of view. My tours are not boring lectures with an overload of dates and facts, but fun and fascinating visits to the city's top sites weaved with intriguing tales and stories that put all the art into context. Learn about the life and times of Florence's great masters. Understand the art-making process and various artistic techniques. Get real insight into the history, art, and culture of this beautiful city. I can easily tailor a tour to fit your style and interests, whether you are a first-time visitor or a wanderlust art-lover. Join me for some interesting walks through town and museum visits with an "educational" twist for intellectually curious travelers! Official licensed tour guide of Florence and native English speaker. Degrees in Art History from Fordham University (B.A.) and Syracuse University (M.A.). I am not a driver. I can arrange for a professional driver to pick you up and drop you off at your port of call.

Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral dominates the Florence skyline and has become a symbol of the city. At the time of its construction, the Cathedral was the largest church in the world. It was built at a time of great prosperity and represented the city's great economic growth and artistic achievements. The cathedral is also famous for its record-breaking dome. Join me for a tour of the Cathedral Complex. We will explore the Cathedral, its crypt, the Baptistery, and the Cathedral Museum which houses priceless works of art that once adorned the complex by master artists including Michelangelo, Donatello, Ghiberti, and many others. Learn about the history of the complex and hear the fascinating story of how Brunelleschi built the amazing dome. This itinerary includes entry to a place of worship - appropriate clothing is required. Access is not permitted with bare legs and shoulders, sandals or hats.
The tour begins with an introduction of the history of the city and of the construction of the Cathedral. We will enter the cathedral and visit the crypt, an archeological site where excavation has brought to light the foundations dating back to ancient times. Then we will enter the Baptistery, the oldest building of the complex to admire the dazzling mosaics. Our final stop will be the cathedral museum where will admire works of art and take in a stunning view of the dome from the museum terrace. Please note the exact order of the monuments may be changed for logistical reasons. A portion of the Baptistery mosaics may not be visible because of the on-going restoration campaign.
