See the evolution of art literally set in stone! Discover the development of sculpture from Medieval time to the Renaissance with a visit to two must-see museums in Florence that shine light on works by Donatello and Michelangelo. Inside the Bargello, we will see masterpieces carved by the hands of the masters - Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Giambologna. What is most fascinating is the contrast in the works that depict the biblical character of David. From a coquettish boy toy to the saviour of the city, this Biblical hero has certainly been portrayed in distinct manners! Afterwards, we make our way on foot to the Accademia museum. Inside we will concentrate on the various works by Michelangelo to see how Michelangelo managed to seemingly turn stone into flesh. The visit cumulates with Michelangelo's history-changing version of David, which is still considered the most important and stunning sculpture in Western art. You'll never forget the first time you lay eyes on this glorious masterpiece!
Our plan for the day: - Meet at accommodation or central location. - Walk to Bargello Museum where we will admire Donatello's Saint George and David. - Walk to Accademia Museum where we bask in the light of Michelangelo's David. - Tour ends inside Accademia. *This tour is not offered on Mondays due to closure of the Accademia. Please enquire if you would like a different museum tour and we can created a customized tour together.
