Hello friends, travelers and tourists: welcome to my space on Tour by Locals. My name is Piero and I am a fully licensed tour guide based in Florence. I was born in Padova and have lived in beautiful Italian cities such as Venice, Trento and Piacenza. I'm an adopted Florentine since 1986 - Florence welcomed me and I love this unique city very much. My background is in publishing. I have worked for several important publishing houses as editor and writer, and am still a freelance professional in the field. My great passions are music and art. I worked as a part time musician for over 10 years traveling and performing throughout Italy, but always coming back to Florence. I feel very fortunate to live in this city, a rare case of beauty, history and art concentrated in a single, fairly small place. That is why for me it was a natural decision, some years ago, to go back to study art and complete the demanding course to become a licensed tour guide. So now my life is divided between solitary work on texts and books and the joyful task of guiding people from all over the world here in Tuscany. I enjoy using my skills of storytelling to help discover the great beauty that Italy has to offer. We will walk the old streets of Florence sharing a warm, fun and rich experience while learning about the many monuments, churches, art pieces and landscapes that this city has to offer. I will share the stories behind the great "palazzi", the lives and times of the most renowned artists and nobles, but also the simple men and women that left their mark which still resonates today, hundreds of years later. Of course living in Italy, the land of the "dolce vita", the sweet life, I am no stranger to its pleasures such as a nice glass of Chianti wine or great authentic Tuscan food. I am more than happy to share this history and culture with you! I am totally open to customize my tours accordingly to your preferences and interests, just let me know and we can plan an amazing tour together! Licensed Tour Guide for Florence and Tuscany. I have worked also outside of Tuscany in Venice and Padua I am not a driver guide but I can arrange for separate car, vans, and drivers.

This tour takes places in the city center of Florence, but it is not your average "highlights" walking tour. Instead it winds through the old center, slightly off the beaten path, bringing to light the details on the palaces that open up the "book of stories". Stories about the rich families that once upon a time lived in those palaces, and made Florence what it is: a city of art and beauty. Many of the details on those facades (or the altarpieces and frescos paid for by the same families), tell the tale of the artists that created such beauty, men with revolutionary ideas and interesting lives. In addition to its artistic history, the ancient rivalries between some of the families and their bloody feuds shaped the political fate of Florence and one single incident, in early 1200s, put in motion a series of conflicts that divided the city for the next 100 years. When the tour meets Piazza della Signoria, the stories of the most important Florentine family, the Medici, will reveal their characters and vision.
- We start the tour in Piazza della Repubblica, the old center of the roman Florentia. - Then we move to via degli Strozzi, Palazzo Strozzi, via Tornabuoni, Piazza Santa Trinita, where we talk about a few palaces and Santa Trinita Church. - Then we head to the piazza del Mercato Nuovo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Palace, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza Pitti. - Finally we reach Piazza Santo Spirito. And if you have any special interests, please let me know!
