We will walk to the Accademia Museum hosting some of the art works by the great Michelangelo which will provide with an understanding of Renaissance sculpture in the 'New Athens' that Florence became during his times. Three different commissionings will take us through the four statues of the Prisoners executed for the pope Julius II an example of his 'unfinished' style; the statue of St Matthew carried out for the Republic of Florence, finally masterpiece David symbol of Renaissance Florence. On this tour we also will be exploring the two main poles of Florence religious and civic, respectively with its Duomo complex and Piazza della Signoria. A visit to the central food market (closed on Sundays) with its 19th century architecture will provide an insight into the local food culture and products. A view from the banks of its river Arno will unfold the beauty of its bridges including that of the Ponte Vecchio. I really like adapting to the traveler's pace while sharing with them my local expertise!
