Hello there! I'm Corinna, a Londoner who has been living in Florence for almost twenty years. I graduated at U. C. L. London University in English and Italian Language and Literature and then the Institute of Linguists London before moving to Italy and becoming an authorised Tour Guide of Florence and the Province in 2008 (Membership No: 006/2009). With this tour, l'd like to explore the recent history of Florence with a focus on the Second World War and the Liberation of the city. This period is often overlooked in traditional historic tours of the city, but l know that these awful events still fascinate people, many of whom had relatives directly involved in this period. The effects of the Second World War on the city were tremendous, with a great amount of artwork and architecture being destroyed or stolen, much of which still hasn't been returned. We will weave our way through the most important events in the city's history, from the locations visited by Hitler himself through to the Battle of Florence and the Liberation of the city. Along our way, we'll see the scars remaining from these significant times of war in Florence.
Corinna was an excellent tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the liberation of Florence and all that went on here during the Second World War. It is clearly evident that she is passionate about history and has an engaging way of telling the story. Highly recommend!
Corinna is an angel! So kind and knowledgeable, not just about WWII but the renaissance, film, and art! We had a lovely afternoon with her, despite it being swelteringly hot, and she was particularly mindful of my husband’s request to be in the shade when possible. Corinna completely hit the mark for us. She quickly weighed us up and tailored her encyclopedic knowledge of so many different aspects of social history to explain both the architecture and culture of this beautiful city, particularly bringing to life the events and characters that shaped Florence's transit though that period. She has a lovely sense of humour and articulate delivery which we found easy to listen to. We particularly enjoyed the snippets of life in earlier times that made us chuckle. Fab
My walking tour covers historic streets and sights in Florence such as Borgo San Jacopo, Palazzo Pitti, famous squares such as Piazza Santa Maria Novella, Piazza Strozzi, Piazza della Signoria and Piazza Santo Spirito - where the tour ends. My tour can be customised to accommodate specific client needs, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes as the old Florentine streets can be uneven. We'll obviously have time during the tour for a coffee break and photographs!
