I'm a licensed tour guide for Florence and Lucca. I was born in Connecticut, USA, but since 1998, I have been living in Florence, with my husband - a native Florentine. I have a BA degree in Art History and Fine Arts from Bennington College and I studied Restoration in Florence at the Istituto di Arte e Restauro Palazzo Spinelli from 1987 to 1989. My tours are all private - not shared- so I can modify an existing itinerary or make a Custom Tour specifically for you. Tell me about your interests and we can go from there. Over the years I've acquired a vast knowledge of Florence and Lucca's history, art and folklore, as well as a real inside view of Italian life today! Along with local history and art, there are so many wonderful and curious stories to tell that bring the past to life and explain the present. You'll come away with a wonderful experience having learned a lot in a fun and memorable way. Along with my passion for art and history, I also love gardens and gardening. Both Florence and Lucca have extraordinary gardens that will amaze any garden or nature enthusiast. Italy is also food and wine! Wine and olive oil tastings are quite the rage and there are no shortages of places where you can stop in and discover the flavors and aromas of Italy - and of course a cup of espresso or cappuccino! I look forward to hear from you soon and sharing my love for Florence and Lucca with you on a great tour! All the Best! Licensed Tour Guide for Florence and Lucca and their provinces. Diploma in Restoration Studies Istituto per L'Arte e il Restauro, Palazzo Spinelli, Florence, Italy (Accredited by the Region of Tuscany) Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Fine Arts and Art History. (Bennington College, Bennington, Vermont, USA) I am not a driver/NCC.

We will trace the fascinating history of Florence's Jewish Community from the early 1300's to today: from the Republic of Florence to the Medici to Mussolini and up to day. We'll also see some of Florence's most important monuments and hidden treasure as we walk through the city center from the "Oltr'arno" area - where the first community was centered - to the present day synagogue built in the 1880's. Florence's community, although quite small, only about 900 people, still thrives steeped the ancient history of the city. We'll have a chance to weave into our tour, notions of general local history and the stories of famous local people who effected the lives of the Jews in Florence. As we go, we'll also see some of the art that made Florence famous and see Jewish inscriptions and symbols on important buildings and even churches! The highlight of the tour is the visit to Florence's synagogue one of the most beautiful in all of Europe. This tour is not available on Saturdays or Friday afternoons.

Working with Laura to set up our itinerary was easy. She told us how to get a driver, as we had to come from the port, and contacted him to ensure everything went well. Her knowledge and depth of history is amazing, and as art history is her thing, we now look at art and sculpture with a greater understanding. She knew of a restaurant that met our dietary needs, and it was great. Four hours never went so fast, and she got us back to our driver on timer. Thanks again Laura, for a great day!
Laura conveys the history and current status of Jewish Florence from the inside. She lives it. Everyone touring Florence should visit the synagogue and its small museum with Laura's guidance. She is a gracious and knowledgeable guide. We were hungry after the tour so she recommended a kosher restaurant and gave us good advice on the best way to secure a taxi. The restaurant she recommended served kosher artichokes using different recipes. It was a perfect lunch. Thank you, Laura.
Laura Great guide with lots of knowledge. Very accommodating and helpful. Work well with my family which is made up of my wife and i and our 19 and 17 year old children. Original from America so makes interacting extremely easy for English speaking customers. Would highly recommend her.
Laura was amazing. So knowledgable. A delight to be with
Laura is a very knowledgeable and delightful tour guide. A native American, she has lived in Florence many years, is fluent in Italian and knows the city intimately, which allowed us to seamlessly navigate while on tour. Whatever question we asked, she answered with great detail. Truly a wonderful 4 hours spent with her
- Via Ramagliante -once called Chiasso dei Giudei - Old Bridge (Ponte Vecchio) - Signoria Square (with the statues of David and Judith) - Orsanmichele church - Repubblica Square (where the ghetto was) - Via delle Oche (where 2 small synagogues once were) - Cathedral Square (for the Gates of Paradise with Tanach stories) - Via Proconsolo and 3 of the stumbling stones recently placed there - Synagogue of Florence. We can also do the tour starting at the synagogue. Please note that this is a private tour, so we can make changes to the itinerary as you may like.
