Hello there! I've been living in Florence for over 35 years. Originally from the U.K , I decided to move to Florence to study and to make it my home for a while. I loved it so much that I just couldn't leave! There was so much going on here for me and I ended up after I'd finished my studies in art history and restoration, setting up a business. Buying, restoring and selling antiques. I've always had a passion for art and history and in Florence and Tuscany, there is so much of this and more! I have a background in theatre and music. I play the cello in an amateur orchestra here in the city. I married a Florentine and I have two grown up children. I spent many years living in a farmhouse on a hilltop surrounded by olive groves and vineyards but recently we moved back into the city. I use a bicycle to get around. I trained to be a guide 11 years ago because I wanted to be able to transmit all that I'd learned to others and I want to give every visitor a marvellous and unique experience. I love what I do! I am great with children and sensitive to people's needs. Let me lead you through the streets following in the steps of some of the world's greatest artists. Listen to fascinating tales from history. Understand about Italian culture and ideals. Taste authentic Florentine dishes and wines and soak up the culture. Walk with me off the beaten path and into the trendy Oltrarno neighborhood where restorers and artisans are still at work. Shop where the locals' shop. This tour will give you an in-depth view of how and why Florence came to be the centre of art and culture. We will walk through the main squares of the city: Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza della Signoria, Piazza del Duomo (the cathedral) and the baptistery. We'll look at wonderous pieces of sculpture and architecture. Medieval tower houses, Renaissance palaces and the city's famous bridge 'The Ponte Vecchio' are just to name a few of the sites we'll see. Find out about the rulers, the Medici family and listen to brutal tales from history. During the tour, we'll take a break at one of the best gelato shops in town. Finally, a visit to the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's masterpiece, his David and 4 other of his statues is a must. The Accademia gallery is CLOSED ON MONDAYS. (I can make other suggestions such as Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio or Medici chapels).
Catherine was wonderful. Very informative. We had been to Florence several times and learned several new things. She was easy to understand and very accommodating to our schedule. Wonderful tour that offers great overview and perspective about the city. Excellent guidance delivered by Catherine who is deeply knowledgeable and passionate about local history, culture and arts. Her flawless English (originally from England) and years of living in Florence made it easy to follow her lead. Plus, she responded to our interests and seemed to customize some stops. And finally, Catherine thoughtfully dropped us at a desired market for lunch after having introduced us to several shopkeepers
We were very interested in the history of the Medici family, and Catherine's Tour was exactly what we wanted. Catherine's knowledge of the subject was very deep, and her style was friendly and engaging, bringing the whole story to life. A very enjoyable and rewarding tour. Katherine was wonderful. Her knowledge of Florence and the cities history is mind blowing. We saw many of the popular sights and finished at Bardini Gardens with a great view of the city. If you're in Florence for a few days, I strongly recommend hiring Katherine as a tour guide. You will really enjoy yourself.
Catherine is one of the "best of the best". Our group ( 4 adults) spent 2 days with Catherine discovering Florence. First day, with a private driver, we traveled out to the Chianti region for winery tour and lunch. She was engaging, flexible and highly knowledgeable. Next day, we met for a walking tour of the Florence city centre. Catherine's expertise of the Renaissance era/ Michelangelo was mind-boggling. She was energetic, punctual, and very personable. Highly highly recommend Catherine.

B. It is closed between 12 pm and 4 pm) - The Accademia Gallery. (N. B. It is closed on Mondays). This is a private tour and therefore customized to suit you.
