Matera: one of the oldest, unique and stunning city of the world where it has been shot several movies (The Passion of the Christ, the remake of Ben Hur and Wonder Woman, James Bond 25) with its Sassi (two old districts carved in the rock) thas has been declared, in 1993, Unesco world heritage site because they represent "the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem".

The old town of Alberobello is an Unesco site because it's the only village completely made of trulli (there are about 1. 500): a traditional type of corbelled stone conical roof dwellings that have survived quite intact and functioning to the present days.
