Discover and enjoy the authentic Puglia. Welcome in Puglia (or Apulia): the sunny and windy "heel of the Italian boot". We are Italy's easternmost region, right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea with culture and traditions that are the results of several different dominations, cultural and economic influences. First of all I'm a traveler (for leisure and work) and I like to discover foreign countries and their culture, traditions, food, people, etc. I have been working in tourism since 1998 as travel designer, event organizer, licensed tourist guide, nature (hike and bike) and interpretive guide, tour leader, food and wine lover (olive oil taster, wine sommelier). I'm passionate about my region and I like to share our amazing attractions and culture with other people. Puglia is an "easy region": the weather is quite warm all year long (the best time to come is from March to November but it's worth to come also in winter time), people is friendly (… but only a few people speaks English or another foreign language), there are always lots of events and things to do and our Mediterranean diet is healthy and tasty for everybody (amazing choice of tasty meat, fish, pasta, rice, legumes, vegetables and fruit recipes). Travelers who come for the first time in Puglia usually are fascinated by the Puglian daylight and the colours of the seaside and the countryside. I'll share with you the soul of Puglia, its culture, traditions, flavors, nature, scent, vibes . . . If you're looking for an hyper detailed and boring visit I'm not the tour guide for you but if you like a friendly and easy going person who will make his best, thanks to his experience and empathy, to understand and satisfy your needs, to suggest the right choices matching with your interests, to introduce in our culture and traditions, to help you in spending a very nice time … then contact me. I'm a licensed tour guide, nature (hike and bike) guide, environmental educator; wine sommelier, certified olive oil taster, tour leader. Education and training: University degree with experimental final essay (with photographic appendix) in Geography about Apulian rural buildings (masseria, villa, trullo); Master in Tourism Economics and Management; Professional training courses: tour guide, nature and interpretive guide, environmental educator, bike guide, bicycle mechanic, BLSD (Basic Life Support Defibrillation), inclusive and accessible tourism; Cooking, wine and extra virgin olive oil tasting classes; Workshop about recognition of Apulian wild orchids; Photography's workshop about show and Entertainment, nature. PLEASE WRITE ME BEFORE BOOKING (this way we will be sure the tour will match perfectly your needs in terms of price, service included, date, start time, duration, etc.). THIS WAY IS EASIER AND FASTER FOR YOU AND ME.

Overview of your Bari tour

In a day you will discover probably the most appreciated and magic tourist destinations of Puglia and Basilicata. Matera: one of the oldest, unique and stunning city of the world where it has been shot several movies (The Passion of the Christ, the remake of Ben Hur and Wonder Woman, James Bond 25) with its Sassi (two old districts carved in the rock) thas has been declared, in 1993, Unesco world heritage site because they represent "the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem". The old town of Alberobello is an Unesco site because it's the only village completely made of trulli (there are about 1. 500): a traditional type of corbelled stone conical roof dwellings that have survived quite intact and functioning to the present days. Thanks to my extensive experience as tour guide, nature guide, wine and food expert, you'll enjoy the highlights of this area in terms of architecture, nature and food.

We had a great time with Alessandro. He was a fount of knowledge giving us great background and context as we drove to Matera and Alberobello. Pacing and explanations were great. We did an amazing lunch stop at a local bakery and had a surprise visit to a chocolate factory on a sleepy drive back late afternoon. Matera itself was breath-taking and who doesn't love getting an amazing view of the Trulli's. A great day overall.

Alessandro is an excellent guide, especially for first time visitors. He offered many interesting details about what it was like to live in the sasi of Matera and the trulli in Alberbello.

This was a great tour that allowed extensive visits to both UNESCO sites. Alessandro was very knowledgeable and filled the day with a running narrative about everything we saw and everywhere we went. His stop at a bakery for us to have foccia was very filling and tasty. Overall the tour, although a bit long was very well received.

Alessandro went out of his way to make us comfortable. In both sights, he went back to get the car so we didn't have to retrace our steps. Matera and Alberobello are magical places that should not be missed.

We spent a full day with Alessandro touring Matera and Alberobello while we were visiting Bari in February 2024. He is an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable about the region. We had a great time that day and will highly recommend anybody visiting the Puglia region to use him. His English language skills is excellent and he made the tour fun for the two of us. We plan to use him again when we go back to visit with our friends next year.

Your Bari tour itinerary

1 hour driving to get to Matera's UNESCO districts (Sasso Caveoso and Barisano): a unique walking experience among dwellings partly carved in the sandstone and partly built with the blocks extracted from the rock. - Visit to a church carved in the rock and painted with frescoes, to a typically furnished cave dwelling to understand the life of a peasant family until WW2. - Stroll along the panoramic street overlooking the canyon and in the ghost town used as movie set. - We can also visit the medieval and the baroque part of the city - At lunch I suggest a quick stop at a bakery to taste the delicious Matera's bread and focaccia. - Stop at the belvedere to admire the stunning skyline of the city along the way (1 hour driving) to Alberobello. - There we will visit the two old UNESCO districts (Aia Piccola and Monti) to discover the trulli (their history, architecture, the symbolism of their finials) and to enjoy the fairy tale atmosphere of this amazing village. Back to Bari in 1 hour drive.
