Hi, my name is Donncha and I would be delighted to be your private driver/guide on your trip to Ireland. Based in County Laois in the midlands of Ireland, I am well located to cover many parts of Ireland. My tours will take you through my own county of Laois, my neighbouring County Kilkenny, County Carlow, County Tipperary and all along the west coast of Ireland - Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway & Mayo. I offer day trips from Dublin to the likes of Wicklow, Kilkenny and Kildare. Tours of the midlands cover Laois, Offaly and Westmeath while in 'the sunny south-east' I can take you to Wexford and Waterford. I have been operating as a driver/guide for over 10 years. I am a qualified guide, approved by Failte Ireland, our national tourism agency. Your transport will be a Mercedes V-Class with leather seats and air-conditioning. I am passionate about my country, its history and its people and am proud to have been able to demonstrate its beauty and culture to so many people in the past. Always flexible, I am able to take you 'off the beaten track' to show some of the hidden gems of Ireland or any areas and places that might be of special interest to you. Overview of your Dublin tour
We will travel about an hour outside Dublin and discover the rich landscape of the Irish midlands in County Kildare and County Laois. This is an area in which I have lived for most of my life, and it is my pleasure to bring visitors to explore and sample its culture. From the rich pastureland of County Kildare and its important part in the development of Ireland's thoroughbred horse industry which includes tales of the legendary Gaelic hero Fionn MacCumhaill and his exploits to the more recent success of Irish horses all over the globe. My home county of Laois has historic homes and monuments dating back several centuries and my local knowledge will take you to places unfrequented by large tour groups. This area is steeped in history which you will learn about as you tour through quaint villages and enjoy beautiful scenery. Tour length is 8 hours, and the itinerary can be amended to suit your travel plans or location.
Your Dublin tour itinerary
Pickup in Dublin City at 9am. The Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens in Kildare is the first stop. This is the home of Ireland's thoroughbred horse industry with expert guided tours and The Japanese Gardens which are world renowned. The gardens are self-guided and you may opt for a guided tour of the stud facility (included in admission price). The guided tours are conducted by staff from the stables and are well recommended. Lunch at National Stud or nearby traditional local pub. A little further south in County Laois is The Rock of Dunamase. Just a short journey takes us to Emo Court where you can explore the beautiful gardens with walks around the nearby lake. An optional tour of the house is available during the summer months. Return to Dublin at approx. 5pm. Remember that it is your tour and I can amend the day to suit your needs or it can be combined with some of my day trips in other parts of the country for a longer tour.
