I’m Cathal, a private guide and professional actor, offering story-led walking tours that bring Dublin to life. I’ve spent over a decade guiding visitors through this city, sharing its history, culture, and stories with people from all over the world. Born in Dublin and raised in rural County Kerry, I grew up in a world where storytelling was part of everyday life—tales of emigration, rebellion, landlords, fairies, and ghosts. When I later returned to Dublin for university, it felt like stepping onto the stage where so many of those stories had unfolded. My background includes Philosophy, Archaeology, and German. Having spent time living in Germany, I speak conversational German and am happy to welcome German-speaking guests. I also work professionally as an actor. That naturally shapes the way I guide. I bring the city to life through story, atmosphere, and lively conversation. My tours are relaxed, engaging, and personal. Whether it’s your first time in Dublin or you want to go deeper, I aim to help you experience the city with humour, insight, and a real sense of adventure. Dublin has a story around every corner, and I’d be delighted to share it with you. Cathal

This extended tour includes a visit to the Book of Kells and Trinity College. With 5 hours, we have time not only to see the highlights, but to explore them more deeply and at a relaxed, unhurried pace. We will trace the city’s story from early Celtic Ireland through Viking settlement, medieval life, and political upheaval, to modern Ireland. My approach is relaxed and story-driven. Along the way you may hear a myth, a poem, or even a song, as the day unfolds naturally around your interests. Please note: The Old Library is currently undergoing restoration, which may affect parts of the visit.
Possible highlights include: • Dublin Castle (Exterior Only) – The former centre of British administration in Ireland for over 700 years, key to understanding the city’s political story. • Christ Church and the Medieval Quarter – Exploring the area around the cathedral and the former Viking settlement at Wood Quay. • Temple Bar and the Ha’penny Bridge – Dublin’s cultural quarter and its first pedestrian bridge across the River Liffey. • Trinity College – Founded in 1592, Ireland’s oldest university and one of its most beautiful historic spaces. • The Book of Kells and the Old Library – Visiting the famous manuscript and the Long Room exhibition within Trinity College. We will also stop for a break/lunch along the way.
