Overview of your Dublin tour
This tour will take you to the heart of medieval Ireland. You can visit the stunning 12th century Kilkenny Castle with its wonderful portrait gallery. St. Canices Cathedral and Round Tower are also very important sites to visit. The history of Kilkenny is filled with excitement, from it's early development by Franciscan monks, through to the medieval period. You will hear about some of the characters from the past, including Alice Kytler, the first woman in Ireland charged with witchcraft. The famous Irish beer (not Guinness) Smithwicks ale was first brewed here in the early 1700s. You will also get a chance to learn about Irelands first person to be charged with witchcraft (Alice Kytler). You can browse the many craft shops and enjoy a drink and food in one of the many atmospheric pubs. Let me take you on a wonderful day out to Kilkenny.
Your Dublin tour itinerary
Meeting at your hotel, I will introduce you to what you will do on the tour. We leave Dublin and drive directly to Kilkenny city. 90 minutes approximately. Our first stop is at Kilkenny Castle where you may take a guided tour, or you can self guide. 1 hour approximately. Following your castle visit I will take you to a local Inn for lunch. This atmospheric pub was once the home of the infamous Alice Kytler, the first woman in Ireland to be charged with witchcraft in the year 1324. Following lunch, I will take you to St. Canices Cathedral, where you may wish to take a self guided tour and climb the medievel round tower with wonderful views across Kilkenny. This is a 35-40 minute stop. You can now have free time to explore the narrow streets and visit some of the great craft shops that adorn the town. 1 hour approximately.
