Overview of your Pune tour
My Grandfather has written History and Geography books for school children. I have visited many forts and caves along with him. It was fun, 5-6 of us following him to see the places. Everytime I enjoy the view around . Sometimes monkeys follow us ! We drive down 59 km to Bhaja caves. The ancient vibes and small rooms really give me chills. It's quiet, serene place. Far away we can see Visapur fort , Lohgad, Tung fort . Then we drive 7-8 km and go to Karla cave. Here climbing up the hill is fun as many shops, Kiosks are along the way. At Karla you climb the hill for 30-40 min. and see well preserved Buddhist cave and a Hindu EKviradevi temple.

Bhaja caves, date almost to the 2nd century BC and are believed to be one of the oldest buddhist religious centres in this area. The caves face west At Bhaje caves we climb 100 steps and see Buddhist caves. The 12 th cave "Chaityagrah" is the grandest of all the other caves. Karla Cave is about 55 km from Pune. The Buddhist caves at Karla are one of the finest examples of ancient rock-cut caves to be found in India. The Karla Caves were built around 100 AD by the Buddhist nuns. The Karla caves encloses Buddha viharas, where by the monks stayed during their meditation period in the caves.
