Explore Hampi your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Hampi tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Hampi for every interest, including:

History tours: Walk through Virupaksha Temple with your guide to decode carvings and see the pinhole‑camera shrine that projects the gopuram inside, then follow Hampi Bazaar up to the Hemakuta shrines for sweeping views. Explore the Royal Enclosure to climb the Mahanavami Dibba, peek into the stepped tank and the Queen’s Bath, and finish at the Vittala Temple’s famed stone chariot.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Catch sunrise on Matanga or Anjanadri Hill as langurs, peafowl, and parakeets stir, then glide in a coracle on Sanapur Lake through granite boulders and banana groves. Spend late afternoon at Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, watching from the viewpoint as bears emerge to feed, and add birding at Kamalapura Lake for storks and kingfishers.

Layover tours: Get picked up at Vidyanagar (JSW) Airport or Hospet Junction and fit highlights into 4–6 hours—Virupaksha Temple, a quick loop of the Royal Enclosure and Mahanavami Dibba, and, time permitting, a coracle crossing on the Tungabhadra—before your drop‑off. Your guide can time entrances to avoid queues, store your luggage, and steer you to a quick North Karnataka thali in Kamalapur.

Hampi’s ruin clusters are partly walkable, but sites are spread over many kilometres and public transit is limited to local buses and auto‑rickshaws. For comfort and speed, you can book chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation, or ask your local guide to arrange an air‑conditioned car.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Hampi inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Hampi

Base yourself in Hampi and branch out on easy day trips to nearby cities, temple clusters, and quiet hills that round out your time among the ruins.

Badami, Aihole, and Pattadakal: Link these Chalukyan-era sites in one loop for a deep dive into early Indian architecture, from Badami’s rock-cut caves to Aihole’s experimental temples and the UNESCO-listed riverside complex at Pattadakal. History fans get clear timelines, photographers get dramatic sandstone and pillars, and your tour can pace the day to focus on carvings, viewpoints, or village lunches along the way.

Anegundi and Anjanadri Hill: Cross the Tungabhadra to Anegundi’s old streets, paddy fields, and boulder country, then climb the steps up Anjanadri for wide views and a quiet hilltop temple. This works for you if you like short hikes, mythology, and local snacks in a small-town setting, and your tour can time the hill for sunrise or late-afternoon light.

Tungabhadra Dam and Hospet: See the scale of the dam from public viewpoints and watch the reservoir shift colours as the day changes, then swing into Hospet for markets and a simple North Karnataka meal. It fits if engineering, everyday city life, and easy logistics sound good, and your tour can keep it relaxed with more time for food or quick photo stops.

Sandur Valley and Kumaraswamy Temple: Drive into the red-and-green folds of Sandur for a calm day among hills and a centuries-old temple complex, with a chance to meet local craft workers known for vibrant embroidery. Ideal if you want cooler air, temple architecture without crowds, and a slow walk through village lanes, with your tour adjusting routes based on season and road conditions.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Hampi most travellers miss.
