Namaskar, I am Pratibha - a teacher by profession and a fond traveller. Over the years with support of a loving family, I developed a passion for traveling and exploring culture and new attractions. A trip to new destination during the holidays was something my family and I always looked forward to. After retiring as a teacher, I took up being a tour guide to keep myself busy with my passion. I love to meet people from different geographical areas and cultures. Pune is an amicable city , with proud history and a thriving cultural center. First thing that comes to my mind is " My grandfather was a well known educationist in Pune 70 yrs, ago. He wrote History and Geography books for school children as a part of curriculum. Pune is a hub for Education. I have heard many scholars in my childhood at his house. Let's enjoy Pune heritage walk along following places. . . . Mahatma Phule Mandai, Mandai has Gothic architecture and has taste of local culture. Almost everything is available in this bazzar. Down the road is a small Rameshwar ( Shiva) temple built in 1770. A very peaceful place in crowded market. Burud Ali Pune Nagar Vachan Mandir Belbaug Vishnu Mandir Vishrambaug Wada Tulsibaug Ram Mindir
The tour was fantastic! Pratibha was very knowledgeable and made great conversation and was able to also be a good translator between me and the local community. With her guidance we navigated several markets and explored some beautiful temples and made several snack stops. She even helped me choose a wonderful sari for my wife (my idea); explaining how to identify quality and how the are cut and sewn. Bottom line - book this tour, you will not regret it!
I had a wonderful tour with Pratibha in the Parsi area of Pune. It was exactly the tour I had hoped for. A great knowledgeable guide, full of energy and great suggestions in all areas: architecture /history/ food/drinks abd sweets. I loved it ! Thank you and till next time!
Absolutely wonderful tour. All the temples and historical sites were brought to life with Pratibha's narratives. Also, the Tulsi Baug markets are a must for shoppers. I really enjoyed my tour today, mainly because Pratibha was so knowlegeable, relaxed and flexible.
Let's enjoy Pune heritage walking along following places. . . . We will start at your chosen time in Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai . Then we walk towards Burud Ali at the back of Mandai. Buruds are bamboo craftsmen. . making bamboo baskets, ladders and blinds etc. Finding our way through crowd we go to Pune Nagar Vachan Mandir, 1842.The first Pune library for natives. A short walk towards north brings us to Laxmi rd. , a shoppers paradise. Few old two storied houses can be seen with wooden work and wrought iron railings. Opposite to Pune Nagar Vachan Mandir is Belbaug Vishnu Mandir, built by Nana Phadnavis, the chief administrator of the Peshwas. Short walk along colourful shops on Laxmi rd brings us to Vishrambaug Wada, 1807. This fine mansion was residence of Bajirao II. The last stop is Ram Mandir in Tulsibaug.
