Explore Bhopal your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Bhopal tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Bhopal for every interest, including:

Layover tours: Get picked up at Raja Bhoj Airport and spend a few relaxed hours by Upper Lake; snap photos along VIP Road, take a quick boat from the Boat Club, then enjoy poha-jalebi and chai at a favourite New Market stand before your drop-off. With a longer layover, your private tour can add a short wander through Chowk Bazaar for glass bangles and ittars, or a respectful visit to the vast Taj-ul-Masajid.

History tours: Explore the Old City with your guide, stepping into Gohar Mahal by the lake, the pink Moti Masjid, Sadar Manzil, and the unusual Shaukat Mahal, and spend quiet time in the courtyard of Taj-ul-Masajid. For a fuller day, your private tour can include UNESCO sites like Sanchi Stupa or the Bhimbetka rock shelters, with the drive planned to beat traffic and heat.

Art and Culture tours: Visit the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum and the open-air Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya to see life-size homes and crafts from across the state. Then stop at Bharat Bhavan for contemporary art, meet zardozi embroiderers in the Chowk to watch their work or try a simple batik-print step, and close with kebabs or Bhopali qorma at a trusted eatery.

Short stretches around the Old City and the lakefront are walkable, but sights are spread out and buses or auto-rickshaws can be slow for visitors, and metro service is limited. You can book chauffeured tours with private transportation, or ask your local guide to arrange a car for pick-ups, drop-offs, and luggage storage.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Bhopal inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Bhopal

Base yourself in Bhopal, then use day trips to reach UNESCO sites, rock art, and forts within a short drive, shaping your tour around Buddhist history, cave shelters, or temple architecture.

Sanchi: See the Great Stupa and gateways with fine carvings, visit the small museum, and walk the hilltop complex at an easy pace, ideal if you enjoy early Buddhist art, calm views, and clear stories in stone.

Bhimbetka Rock Shelters: Wander sandstone overhangs with prehistoric paintings and striking rock formations, which suits anyone curious about ancient life, light walks, and nature mixed with archaeology.

Udayagiri Caves and Vidisha: Explore Gupta-era cave shrines and the famous Varaha relief, then add Vidisha’s Heliodorus Pillar and old lanes, a strong pick if you like early Indian sculpture and layered local history.

Bhojpur Temple: Stand before the massive Shiva linga inside an unfinished 11th-century shrine, look out to the river and countryside, and fold in village stops, a good short outing for temple architecture fans.

Raisen Fort: Climb to a hilltop fort with lakes and wide views, walk quiet ramparts, and see shrines inside the complex, which fits if you want light hiking and a less busy heritage site.

These day trips pair well with private tours, letting your tour balance sites, short walks, and local snacks without a long drive.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Bhopal most travellers miss.
