Explore Khajuraho your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Khajuraho tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Khajuraho for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Head out on a private jeep safari in Panna Tiger Reserve via the Madla Gate, watching for tigers, chital, and marsh crocodiles along the Ken River. Pair it with a guided visit to Raneh Falls and the Ken Gharial Sanctuary for canyon views and a chance to spot gharials and colourful kingfishers.

History tours: Explore the Western Group of Temples with a guide who decodes the carvings at Kandariya Mahadeva and Lakshmana, then compare styles at the Jain temples of Parsvanatha and Adinatha in the Eastern Group. Add the Archaeological Museum and the daily worship at Matangeshwar Temple to see how living traditions connect to the 10th-century sites.

Food and Drink tours: Sample fresh kachori and jalebi at a favourite street stall near the Western Group entrance, sip lassi in a clay kulhad, and learn how your snacks are made. Join a home kitchen for a Bundeli-style meal with millet rotis on a chulha, seasonal saag, and tangy kadhi, or try a simple chai-and-spice tasting in the bazaar.

Khajuraho’s main temple clusters are easy to cover on foot, and auto-rickshaws make short hops simple, but public transit is limited for outlying sites. For Raneh Falls, the Eastern and Southern groups, and Panna Tiger Reserve, you can book chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation; ask your local guide to arrange the vehicle and timing.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Khajuraho inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Khajuraho

Staying in Khajuraho sets you up for short day trips into Bundelkhand, where forts, river canyons, and wildlife areas line up well for private tours that keep your schedule flexible.

Panna National Park and the Ken River: Head for a safari gate near Madla to look for deer, birds, and, with luck, big cats, then add a gentle boat ride on the Ken for river cliffs and quiet views, which works if you like wildlife and open country without a long haul.

Raneh Falls Canyon and Ken Gharial Sanctuary: Basalt and granite walls shape a deep canyon with seasonal waterfalls, and nearby waters shelter fish‑eating crocodiles and many birds, so this pairs geology and nature in a simple half‑day that still feels varied.

Kalinjar Fort: A large hilltop stronghold with gateways, stepwells, temples, and big views over the plains gives you a clear line on Rajput and Chandela history, and it suits you if you enjoy exploring spreads of stonework with time to climb and look around.

Ajaygarh Fort: Quieter than Kalinjar and set on a high rock, the fort’s walls, ruins, and old water tanks make a good outing for light hiking and photography, especially if you like sites with few crowds and simple rural stops nearby.

Dhubela Museum: In a palatial complex tied to Maharaja Chhatrasal, galleries show Bundela arms, manuscripts, and sculpture, so you get a compact history hit that pairs well with cenotaphs and lakes around the site.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Khajuraho most travellers miss.
